Smart Detection Recording Tree Movement Why?!

I have a V3 camera that is set to record Smart Detections of Persons, Vehicles and Pets, yet it often records tree movements. And no, it didn’t partially catch one the set smart settings as nothing was in the frame except the moving tree branches, it was as if the event recording was set to record all motion events, which it wasn’t.

I understand there weren’t any AI objects in view . I’m just curious if it misidentified any - Did it tag or label any AI objects falsely or do the tags just say motion and nothing else?

If they just say motion and nothing else I may have a solution for you.

Just said motion and it shouldn’t do that because it’s set for Smart Detections and not all motion.

I’ve been so frustrated with the AI because it’s been years and it’s still not learning. Just today on another V3 camera set to record all motion it recorded a man with his little daughter and dog, but it tagged the video as a Vehicle because there was a parked car behind them. The motion tagging boxes was clearly over them and not the parked car. And it did it again with another person who was walking their done, tagged it as a vehicle for the parked car.

This is a bug in their app that I reported to them. The way you solve this issue is to go into the settings - Event Recording - TEMPORARILY switch it from Smart Detection Events to “All Events” (you’ll switch this back in a minute) - Now select “Custom Detections” - uncheck the “Notify” box for “Other Motion” - Go back and switch from All Events back to Smart Detection Events.

Problem solved.

The issue is that if you had motion notifications checked and then select Smart Detection Events, it doesn’t automatically uncheck the motion event notifications and it should. You have to do it manually BEFORE switching to Smart Detection events and then it will work normally.
I know, it’s a dumb bug, and I’ve reported it. I don’t know if anyone will ever fix it or not, but at least I can tell you how to fix it.

So, I have good news for you. The newsletter says they finally launched the moving vehicle notification thing they’ve been working on:

So, the good news is that at least you’re not getting “notifications” about stationary vehicles like was frustrating you in the past. However, the AI will still DETECT a stationary vehicle and label/tag the event as a vehicle, it just won’t send you a notification for it anymore.

I don’t see a “Custom Detections” option.

Sorry autocorrect glide typing entered the won’t word. I meant customize detections.

Its in the event recording setting. It will look like this:

Not seeing what you have. I’m on an iPhone, so maybe it’s different? And I was talking about a V3 camera, so there is no PIR sensor.

Did you remember the first step of switching it off of Smart detections to all detections first? If you leave it on Smart detections it will stay hidden. These steps must be followed in the exact order or you won’t see it:

It’s there, you just have to switch it to all events first.

That screenshot and steps were for a V3 camera.

No there isn’t. Did I mention PIR for this somewhere by accident?

I was initially puzzled by that, too, but it’s in the screenshot you shared.

I don’t have a Cam v3, so I can’t confirm whether or not the mention of PIR is there. Seems weird, though, so I understand that confusion about that part.

I don’t see “All Events”, what I have is “All Motion Events”. And when I set it to that it doesn’t show “Custom Detections”.

@R.Good @cyberdog_17 @spamoni @Newshound I know you guys have V3’s and iOS. Can one of you check how to do this on an iPhone or if the screen looks different or the instructions to resolve it. I had other people with iPhones tell me the instructions worked for them in the past, but maybe the app has changed or something? Can one of you see if there is a difference with iOS so we can help Resist resolve this, please?

I don’t have the V3 hooked up anymore. However, all of the other Cameras on iOS shows the same as you are showing with the exception of the label above Customize Detection. Basically all 3 are grouped together.

Are you and @Resist using the same App Version and Firmware version as well?

I’m on Wyze App 3.4.5 (9) and this is what the Event Recording page looks like on my end.

However, I do see the Customize Detection setting on my Battery Cam Pro. So the page is specific to what camera you have. I would assume then that there is no way to fix my issue on a V3 camera.

Sorry if this was explained above. What are you looking at doing? Do you only want recordings when a Person, pet, etc has been seen or triggered?

If so, you would change your settings above to Smart Detection Events and not All Motion Events. Then in the Smart Detection area, that is where you can indicate what you want to do for notification and recording.

You current settings is set to All motion which will record any motion, but you can still set the Smart Detection for Tagging of the event and to control notification based on Person, Pet, etc. Then you will not be notified of Trees.

But asking to make sure I understand what you are looking at doing here.

As I said before the camera’s Event Recording was set to Smart Detection Events, which are Person, Pet and Vehicle. Yet, the camera was triggered by moving tree branches instead when it shouldn’t have recording anything other than the Smart Detection Events.

That is where I am confused. Based on the settings you provided above, you have All motion on. That means all motion will be recorded and not necessarily notified. If you only want AI recorded Events, you need to switch it to Smart Detection Events.

I have All motion turned on for all of my cameras so everything gets recorded. I also have an SD Card set to continuous recording. I want to make sure everything is recorded in case something happens. However, I also set the Smart Detection to Pet, Person, and Package. This will then allow for the correct Tagging for the Event and then based on my notification selections, notify me on only the items I want. But I do record everything.

If you only want to record AI events, then you will need to switch to Smart Detection Events

Again, I do not have All Motion turned on. I only turned it for the picture of my settings so carverofchoice could see that I didn’t have the Customize Detection option. I have Smart Detection Events turned on, as I already explained to you.

OK, looks like yours is a little different than mine and has the options listed under the “Smart Detections” card. Does it show an option to turn off Motion Notifications there? If not, will you go to to the notifications setting and uncheck it there instead?

Then you can go back to the event recording page and switch it back to Smart Detection Events and you shouldn’t have motion events saved anymore.

Okay, did that. So now because notifications is turned off for that camera, I won’t get notified anymore? But I want to get notified for the Smart Detections.

Is this a V3? I have exactly the same event recording settings, but my camera only records objects.

App v3.4.5.650, are you on iOS?
