I bought the socket to put a camera really close by the socket, so it’s a lot of cable as for the one included!
Are there any options?
Tie-wrap the longer cable to be shorter, or buy a shorter cable that has data wires, which the lamp socket needs.
As I recall, when I was trying to set up one with a longer cord, Buying a separate cord is difficult because it requires a special USB, a connection to fit the lamp socket at the correct angle. So in some ways, the only way to get a shorter cord is to cut it yourself to the size you want and then connect it back together and waterproof it with silicone tape or whatever else.
So in this case, I agree with your other suggestion to simply tie it up.
My friend is thinking of buying a Wyze socket but he wants a long cord to run the cam under the eaves. Too bad the cord isn’t stretchable.
It’s easy enough to use a coupler to extend the cord. I have done this with the lamp socket cord. Just buy a cheap coupler adapter that has female microUSB on one end and female USB-A on the other end (make sure the coupler and the new cord are both data capable though). Then you plug both cords into it and if it’s exposed to weather then wrap the connection up with self sealing silicone tape to weatherproof it.
Just keep in mind that the lamp socket doesn’t put out a lot of power, so if you make the cord too long, then you’ll have voltage drop issues and the camera will seem to have connectivity and functionality issues. So beware of cords that are too long.
Good rule to live by.
Or just buy a male to female mini USB cable (not micro USB) that can “DATA SYNC” (very important that it’s not just power cable) at the desired length. It takes a bit of digging but they do make them.
