SD card not found on my pan cam

@tlhutch4 stated the initial issue well.

It was then confirmed by multiple users, including myself.

If you goto to a camera view from Devices or Favorites and click on SD everything works as expected.

If you go to Recent Events and click on SD you either get a SD card not found. or the message blinks and then starts playing.

The Recent Events > SD is where the bug occurs.

I had the same issue on my Pan Cam V3 it was recording to the SD card just fine for about a year then it stopped reading the card. I went to settings and it would show that no SD card was inserted but I did have one inserted, it just wasn’t reading it. My solution was to move one of my Cam Plus subscriptions to it and I was able to record events this way … it was like this for months until recently that I needed my subscription on one of my OG cameras then I started messing with it again.

I tried switching my SD card to a regular Cam V3 and it recognized the SD card, it was able to record and view recordings so I knew the card was fine so I used the Cam V3 to format the SD card and tried it again in the Pan cam V3 but nothing.

I then tried the SD card from the OG camera which was working fine in the OG camera, in the Cam Pan V3 and same happened, it showed no SD card inserted. I tried using the OG camera to format the SD card then putting it into the PAN V3 but still nothing. This was about a week ago.

Today however I saw this thread in my emails and I started reading it and thought this is very similar to what I’m experiencing. So as I’m reading replies I start checking things and I noticed that it’s now reading the SD card and I’m able to look at videos when I go to the camera BUT in events the SD card option is grayed out.

What I was experiencing earlier in the year was that my older Cam Pan v3 would briefly display different error messages while the newer Cam Pan v3 was showing the error described in @tlhutch4’s original post here, even though both cameras were running the same firmware. I still don’t know what to make of this one, but I have difficulty believing that the issue is rooted in firmware based on that experience.

I don’t think this is accurate. I don’t own a Cam v3, but I’ve read other discussions on the Forum that indicate is has the “old” UI with the horizontal timeline, whereas Cam Pan v3 has the “new” UI where the microSD card recording timeline is vertical. I imagine there are other differences, too, based on what I’ve read and screenshots/videos I’ve seen online, but I don’t have an actual Cam v3 to confirm. It’d be great if someone who owns a Cam v3 could point @garyyu17 in the right direction.

Based on the troubleshooting you’ve done so far, that seems like it might be worth trying. I’d also consider refreshing your data in the app for good measure, something like what I outlined above (unfortunately, this seems to wipe out some Watch settings if you use one of those).

There was speculation about that when these microSD card issues were being reported earlier in the year with the regular Cam v3s, but I never saw a definitive answer about that. My sense is that it’s been mostly resolved by fixing things on the server side, though it’s difficult to get an idea of what gets resolved there vs. what fixes are applied to firmware updates because the release notes lack detail.

Welcome to the Forum, @garyyu17 & @biggy238!

Maybe there are 3 UIs then? From what I recall for the couple days I played with a regular v3 it was very similar (maybe not identical) to the Panv3, where my OGs are very different.

On the pan v3 when watching in landscape mode there is a horizontal timeline across the video I can move, that doesn’t exist on the OGs.

When watching in portrait mode, both have the vertical timeline below the video, but there are some subtle differences between Panv3 and OG in that orientation too (most notably lack of the PiP slide out “drawer”).

I think that’s right. The OGs definitely differ from other Cam models’ “new” UIs, and I’ve observed the same thing in landscape mode that you described. The icon overlays for the Live Stream pane are different, too, and when the phone is in portrait mode the microSD card playback timeline has other differences, like that white vertical line running through the green line on the right (using continuous recording), and the time scale on the left shows 12-hour time (I’d really like to be able to make that show 24-hour time like my other cameras).

I upgraded the firmware on my panV3 with the non-working microSD Card last night. It’s now on 4.50.5.1318.

Didn’t really change anything. It does seem to want to at least try to identify the card, sometimes. It seems to want to try and record. but it still doesn’t record and often still doesn’t recognize there is a card or that it is supported.

I’ve done the usual - Power cycle, restart, reformat. Sometimes I’ll get a few minutes of recording or recognition. Doesn’t seem like the problem is fixed, if they were aware there was a problem, or it truly is a hardware issue.

My newer panV3 has not been updated to the new firmware. It’s running 4.50.3.4240 and recording smoothly and constantly.

At this point I have returned 2 pan cams to Amazon. The older one is still working fine so I’ll just go with one until they fix the issue. Of course I’ll never know if they’ve fixed the issue without buying another one sometime. That’s troubling.

Were you not able to view the events using the play button (viewing the cloud event) or by going to the events on the camera main screen?

Yeah I noticed the firmware update didn’t fix it, though not surprising, that firmware probably has been in the works for quite a while and this has been reported more recently.

Oh, it’s happening to older pan cams also. It happened to mine when this first started to be reported in the spring, briefly worked, and hasn’t worked again since then. All my cameras are 5 years old. 50% have this issue.

FYI, if you plan to become fully dedicated Wyze user, bookmark those instructions. Every Wyze user I know has learned the hard way to never update Wyze products until/unless we’re willing to invest time in rolling back the updated product. This company’s updates are always very buggy.

YMMV. I guess I have been lucky with my v2, v3, v4 and OG cams. Only one buggy update since 2019.

I have stayed away from Pan Cams, but been lucky with less moving parts.

Now this is being reported on Cam v2, as well. :disappointed:

I’ve experienced this error as well, but only when trying to view the playback from an event. If I go to the camera directly & view the card, I have no issues.

This may have been fixed in the hot fix 3.2.1 581.

I am now able to see event icons on the timeline from either the camera view > SD card or from the Events > SD card.

Someone verify this for me. Long day and eyes are tired.

The event icons on OG was a separate bug.

The one in this thread is SD card errors when trying to view from the events tab. Originally Panv3, now apparently v3 and v2 are impacted also.

Just installed the update and both issues still exist for me.

@dave27

I’m referring to pan Scan V3. One of my pan Scan V3 had the issue when event
to SD card. It no longer has the issue. I also just double checked my other 2 psv3’s. They never had the issue and still don’t.

So you updated and you still see no event icons on the time line when going from an selected event to the SD card?

Hmmmm. Thanks for verifying.

I have Pan v3s and OGs.

The OGs still aren’t showing icons on the timeline after the update today, they’re the only ones that had that issue. The Panv3s never had an issue with that.

My Panv3 that is about 1.5 years old, when trying to view SD from the “events” tab, initially says “cannot read” but then a second or two later plays it fine. My other that is probably just under a year old now says “No SD card”. Both work perfectly fine when viewing the SD event from the “recent events” on the camera view, or when scrolling through the timeline.

Both still doing the same things with the latest app update.

I don’t remember exactly when those Panv3 issues started since I don’t use the events tab for those cams (or really much at all).

I believe this thread is about the SD card not found issue like I see on one Panv3, I’m not aware of the icons having been an issue on anything other than the OG. But I guess SD card issues could result in that index being messed up and icons missing.

I may have screwed up. Looking back on this thread I see where I could not read the card. Now I see everything as it is supposed to. Sorry for the misinformation.

Still sounds like there is a gremlin.
