Scales additional functions fail

My scale now shows my Weight, blinks, and shuts off. The last time this happened, changing the batteries allowed the other functions to work.
But not this time.

Any suggestions?

I don’t have a Scale-S but I have had this happen on my other scales.

  • First, make sure you’re not using rechargeable batteries (they run at a lower voltage). Also, some generic batteries actually just wrap up a bunch of cell batteries inside them and those are terrible too. Use a good energizer or Duracell type of battery for best results.
  • Clean off the surface of the scale
  • Scrub/file the calluses off of your feet, especially the heel of your foot. There are different tools that will do this, just search for a callus remover, but the point is that calluses prevent a good connection from getting through and so the measurements will fail. This is one of the most common problems.
  • It can help to get the bottom of your feet SLIGHTLY moist (not soaking wet) before stepping on. This will actually improve the connection A TON.

If you try all of the above and are still having problems, maybe the sensor is wearing out or something. How long have you had it?
One thing I had to do on one of my scales for a while when it started dying after years of use was to do all of the above things I mentioned, and then as soon as the weight was measured, I would immediately push downward hard from a nearby towel-rack and door frame to push my feet hard against the surface. This would make my feet have a better connection with the electric pulse and let it work. Of course, you shouldn’t normally need to do this, but if the normal 4 things I listed above aren’t working, then that extra gimmick can possibly help to squeeze a little bit more life out of the device for a while.

I hope it’s just something like filing off the calluses that built up. Totally normal if that’s the issue. I have to do it regularly myself. Calluses really stop the connection from getting through.
