Amazon. And I did not order from Amazon Warehouse or get refurbished or renewed equipment. Bummed.
can you let us know the seller of where you bought. for years I have tried to sway people away from amazon purchasing, its just too easy to get stuff that is supposed to be new and isn’t, and now Wyze uses Amazon for shipping greatly shortening delivery times.
if you can let me know the seller I can try to get this to the right people and get it reported.
When you are doing the setup via Bluetooth, be sure that your GPS Location service is also on. If it is off, it will give you the failed connection error.
It’s set for always on for Wyze. Darn. Again.

It got incredibly hot soon after it was plugged in. Same when I plugged it in again to try setting it up with the Xfinity Gateway. Is that normal?
they do get quite warm but were designed that way. I have spoken with the manger of the product about that and they are within the range they anticipated.
your “seller” I wasn’t able to find the actual seller, can you post a screen shot showing who sold it? I want to try and find some info on them.
I find it frustrating when Amazon is the seller. There is no way to “contact the seller”, etc. Here are some screen shots.
I didn’t just do a return/exchange. I contacted an Amazon agent and told them they should not resell this router.
I opted to order the router with the modem via Amazon so that I could buy extended warranties for both. If I had not been ordering the modem, I probably would have bought it here.
oh wow. ok. I was confused on how you wrote the seller. I agree whole heartedly! that is understandably frustrating!
have you tried setting it up via @SlabSlayer recommendation with GPS on and had any luck? we have run into a host of smaller things through the years which prevent users from setting things up. oddly enough something like GPS can fubar the setup. our team has spoken with people doing the development to see if we can share the knowledge why things like this are needed but so far it has not made it out.
with something like this, more than likely if it was returned it was because someone didn’t understand its capabilities or limitations and just didn’t like it. there might very well be nothing wrong with it. My fellow @Mavens and I can try to get you on the right path to set up, its what we do.
Unfortunately, the GPS setting was correct. Also I tested to be sure the app could still communicate with my Wyze plugs. No problems there.
I had wondered if there might be a problem with the ethernet cable or connectors but changing that had no impact. Further, both ethernet cables worked when I connected my computer directly with the Motorola modem. When I get the router replacement, I hope that if I set it up before setting up the Motorola modem, it will be ready to go. Am I on the right track? I certainly don’t want to go through the ordeal of setting up the modem again only to have no wifi with which to use it!
Everything you’re doing appears to be on par with what I would recommend for troubleshooting, have you by chance attempted a factory reset?
I’m going to do a long link in this but here is the link for the reset on the Metro router, just in case you haven’t already but maybe a reset would help. Just in case it wasn’t already done.
Yes. I believe the first few times I did it wrong (unplugged the router) until I read how it was done on the Wyze site (reset while plugged in). I tried resetting multiple times.
Does my plan to set up the replacement using the Xfinity Gateway modem before I attempt to set it up with the Motorola modem again make sense?

Thanks everyone! This time Amazon actually sent me a brand new, unopened, Wyze router and it’s working great. I’ve been able to reset all my smart devices EXCEPT my Wyze plug . . . no way to reset it to the new wireless network. Arrrggghhh!
No need to delete it from the app. Just hold down on the power button until the Wyze Plug resets and reboots. Then install it as if it were a new plug you just bought. If it is a pre-2021 plug (no black key logo on the back), turn off your mobile data on your phone while you install and when it asks you to connect to the Plug wifi even though there is no Internet, confirm this and allow it to do so. You can turn your Cellular Data back on after it installs.
Thanks, as always! Before I deleted it I made sure I still had your directions for creating the rule needed. Nonetheless, it was annoying that I could not just change the network in its settings.
None of the Wyze devices have the ability to change the network SSID or Password in their settings.
The easiest way is to rename the Router with the same SSID as before and use the same Password. That way, once the new router is up and running, all the devices will log into that same SSID with the Password they already have and never know the Mothership got upgraded.
If you do have to install a router with a different SSID and Password, every device can be reinstalled without deleting it from your app and it will save all the previous settings and just update the network credentials.

Thanks! Was about to write to you about the Motorola modem. Did a ‘before’ speed test with the Gateway and an after. I’ve repeated it since and it is still incredibly slow. Wondering, since the box had been opened and it was missing everything but the adapter (ethernet cable, documents, etc) if you think this modem was returned for a good reason.
