My cam pan v3 doesnt rotate when i use the controls in app. The video is laggy to the point where it takes 10-30 seconds to catch up to whatever its recording. When checking the recordings (sd card button) the lag is still present and im unable to check any recordings properly.
The camera pans all over the place randomly but theres no way for me to control it.
This is happening with BOTH of my cam pan v3s after about 6 months.
Both symptoms sound like wifi signal issue. The camera panning all over the place just sounds like you have either “track motion” or “pan/scan” enabled.
Wifi is strong and camera is within 6ft of my router. I have fiber if that matters. Track motion is turned off. My other camera which is further away works fine. Even playback for recorded events doesnt playback.
If it is moving on its own without track motion or pan/scan, and you haven’t shared the camera or been hacked, something is wrong with it. Was it ever outside? if so water may have gotten in.
Not that it is possible to be TOO close to a wifi router, but generally 6 feet if they are on the same vertical plane should be fine. However nearby bluetooth devices can still interfere, though I don’t see how they’d be telling the camera to move.
Is it always doing the same path? is the camera following something? How are you powering the camera? Using the supplied power brick and cable? You’ve mentioned everything connection, but haven’t mentioned how you are powering the camera. Maybe the “random panning” is the camera rebooting and doing its reboot sequence.
I think we should officially refer to it as the reboot dance.
Good point though, when mine got water inside, it was rebooting every few minutes. When OP implied it was random, assumed it wasn’t the calibration but certainly could appear random.
Change the password on your Wyze account in case someone else is in there, that could cause it to be moving around and potentially lag if two different people are watching at the same time.
There’s a few possibilities here, probably need some more details to narrow it down.
Pan Cam v3s are very finicky when it comes to power so using improper power bricks, or usb cords that are to long can cause some unwanted things, including this reboot dance.
This was my first thought too. Another common reason for this happening is that the camera isn’t getting sufficient POWER to it. This is commonly seen when someone uses a 3rd party adapter or a long 3rd party USB cable (as implied by Omgitstony). Then there aren’t sufficient watts getting to the camera, so when it tries to use the motor or other things it chokes and reboots itself, which also causes it to spin around as if it is tracking something, when it isn’t.
So yes, you might want to consider using a different power adapter and cord and see if that helps. Maybe the official Wyze Outdoor Power Adapter.
Im using the official outdoor camera power adapter from wyze. Maybe the adapter is bad? The movement of the panning is lagging my input on the app. So say i press left, itll take upwards of 30 seconds to move (if at all).
Whats strange is the bideo feed is invredibly laggy. Showing a frame per 15-30seconds. The playback (sd card button) doesnt work at all. Just shows the first frame and no playback.
Im also using a battery cam pro which is working perfectly. Playback is correct, live stream is seamless etc.
Also worth mentioning i did do a factory reset to no avail.
The symptoms you describe are what I see when my camera has bad signal (I have one that is on the edge of usable signal and some days it behaves similarly, though not as extreme, maybe a couple second delay). It could be that the power adapter is going bad, you can test it inside on any 1500MA or greater USB power brick to see. Most standard micro USB cables will fit it, just wont’ sit flat since they aren’t 90 degree, but good enough for testing. Or like I said, water could have gotten in, or maybe a power issue partially toasted the wifi chip.
Yeah, I’m curious if OP can look up on their router what the RSSI -##dBm number is between their router and the camera. I suspect it’s over -60dBm. Usually anything under -70dBm is fair, but there are some devices in some environments that need better than that. It could be that the signal is okay sometimes and then gets random interference at other times that make it less responsive even if the “Signal bars” seem okay…maybe it’s not. Could also make a big difference depending on the protocols of the router. could be worth investigating further.
My distant Panv3 hovers around -68 to -72. Most of the time it is fine but when everyone is home using wifi and bluetooth in the evening sometimes it starts getting a lag. The problem with RSSI is that tells you raw power, but not usable bandwidth or interference, I do have an old AP that I use for site surveys that will tell me actual spectrum info which comes in handy. However if they’re testing it in the same room as the router (and the router isn’t like directly above it) the signal should be excellent and with the exception of nearby bluetooth devices, shouldn’t be any detrimental interference.
When mine was mounted upside down it was typically -65 or better and never had any lag issues, but as I mentioned, that one got water in it and started doing the dance of death constantly. So I compromised.
-70 may not work for others, in my case I’ve carefully chosen the channel with the most usable bandwidth (and recheck every so often, but all the neighboring networks are set to auto and just avoid me) and tweaked various other things too.
I realize I mentioned 1500MA earlier in the thread but that’s the adapter that came with the stack kit, the Pan is indeed 2000. Though 1500 would probably cut it fine temporarily, better to be sure and use a 2A one for the test.
Don’t feel bad I’ve had my cameras for less than 9 months and now mine were doing like yours was but now mine has started not panning at all no tilting either and then finally the other day two of them quit working all together and for some reason Waze doesn’t want to do anything about it
