Nice but I’ve too much foot traffic and close neighbors. It will probably never stop notifying me.
Like the contact sensor, the gate has to open and close to activate, no unnecessary notification on unintended motion.

Motion sensor for outdoor use
Would love to have a weatherproof outdoor motion sensor to supplement my floodlight to introduce additional areas for motion detection, and for my mailbox.
I have 3 gates on my property and it would be useful to have an alert when a gate is opened or left open. Something like a proximity alarm that is used for window security.
For what it is worth, I have 5 outdoor gates (2 metal ones for my swimming pool, 1 wooden shed door, and 2 wooden gates) and use these covers for my Wyze Contact Sensors to be able to use them outdoors::
I have not had a reception issue, but different people’s environments might be different, so check and make sure they get a reception out there for your use case.
Thanks so much. I will look into those.
Has anyone used the V2 sensors in a metal mailbox? I tried that with my V1 sensors and the metal interfered with the signal so I couldn’t get any notifications for when the mailbox was closed, only when it was opened.
I did at my previous home with both the V1 and the V2, but my mailbox at that home was right next to the front door, not over by the road, so the reception was a lot closer. I think others have done it for those out by the road though. Hopefully someone will chime in. The signal distance has been better with the V2’s, so I think it works better that way. It might depend on factors like how far away it is.
Outside entry sensor please
Would be great if Wyze can introduce an outdoor entry sensor for side gate entrances, for example please. Thank you!
Yeah. It’s in the wishlist and MULTIPLE people have asked for it but it will probably never come to pass. Look at Ring on Amazon (if you have Ring), they have a water-resistant contact sensor that works on AA batteries. Worth the money when you don’t have to think about it because it works.
It comes grey but I spray-painted it black and installed it on my front gate. Works perfectly. No dropped signal, and no dead sensor due to the coin battery not being able to handle the cold. Waiting for the Wyze sensor on my back gate to die or brick to get another Ring sensor.
Like this one:
To compete with Ring, Wyze needs to add an outdoor fence gate sensor to their product portfolio. I’m all in for three of these!
While I also want Wyze to make the sensors outdoor rated, in the meantime, for what it is worth, I have found a workaround right now. Just today I set up a couple of sensors outside on my fences using an outdoor cover designed specifically for these Wyze sensors!
Here is a picture of one of the sensors I just set up (I chose a black cover, though the guy I bought them from also sells them in all white too):
The sensor just goes inside the cover:
You screw the outdoor cover and magnet holder into the gate to stay in place:
And works REALLY well! And these sensors still have a really far reach through several walls, and my backyard, etc because of the 915MHz RF signal they use, so these covers don’t seem to affect it much at all, but it makes it suitable for outdoor use!
I previously installed a couple of these on my metal pool gate using other adhesive solutions and loved them so much I got some more and finally got around to installing 2 more today on my wooden gates with screws and they’re all working amazingly well. I would highly recommend them to anyone who has a need for outdoor sensors compatible with their Wyze system now and doesn’t want to wait, hoping that Wyze maybe will do this later someday. You can make them work outside right now if you need such a solution immediately:
Incidentally, this seller will also let you just purchase the STL file a lot cheaper and print them yourself for free if your local library allows 3D printing like a lot do, or if you have your own:
But I’ve been buying stuff from this seller for years now and he does high-quality work and goes out of his way to make sure everyone is satisfied, so I like trusting him to do it all for me and provide all the other materials, like screws or whatever else so I don’t have to bother (he’s also a forum member on here).
