Outdoor plugs, schedule works on 1 plug and not the 2nd plug

I am using an outdoor Plug for my Christmas lights from last year and there was an update. It was driving me nuts why one plug was only working until I found this thread. Disappointed it is a software bug.

I set a rules in the wyze app but I also use Google home and can create a routine if needed as well. I only use this plug for Christmas lights.

Hopefully next year it is fixed lol. It worked great last year

I bought some more lights and needed a new pair of external plugs and since there were no improvements on my current wyze and the thread shows this, I had to buy from another brand

I’ve had a few different brands like ones from Walmart and Home Depot. I’m surprised that Wyze is this negligent as I assumed they are more of the reputable brands.

Fortunately this plug is only used once a year for Christmas lights but really disappointing overall. 1ill not buy future products. I am shocked that it has been an issue for almost a year. I understand a few weeks but not a year

I’m also a bit surprised that this one hasn’t seemed to get some attention from the engineers, and I anticipate that it’ll be on the fix-it-friday list when those topics are expected to start again after the first of the year. :crossed_fingers:

I haven’t been personally affected by this particular issue, because I haven’t been able to replicate it when I’ve tried, and I tend to centralize my automations within Google Home when I can, anyway, but it’s still frustrating to read that so many other users have experienced this problem.

Hi thank you for the warm invitation. Really great information being exchanged in the community and glad to see it.

I have a smart lighting from Walmart I got and it does not have a sunset routine so I created an automation in Google home. I was wondering does the app from Google home send the info and activate it or does it gets stored on Google and still works even if the phone with the app has no wifi or signal? Also are “scenes” in Google home automation only for certain devices like Wiz?

I’m still learning how to use it beyond basic on or off functions but has been great so far. Thanks again for the help! :+1:

I cannot offer a why or how but when I changed from a slow DSL internet provider to a fast satellite internet provider my Wyze plug now works as advertised. Throughput? Better router? Not sure. Maybe a technical expert can offer how this resolved my issues with the Wyze outdoor plug.

This and your other question might be better served by another topic, but my understanding of Google Home Routines is that, like Wyze Automations, they run from servers and require an Internet connection to the devices they’re expected to control. You could probably set up a Google Home automation and then physically destroy your phone and the automation would still run. (I’m not gonna be first in line to test this, though.)

I’m not familiar with the use of that terminology in the context of Google Home (though I’m aware that apps for some smart lighting products use “scenes”). I’m also not sure here if you mean Wyze or WiZ (another company that does smart lighting), so I don’t know what you’re asking—though, again, since that question doesn’t seem to be directly related to Plug Outdoor, then feel free to start your own topic and expand on the question with more detail!

I don’t know, either, as I haven’t been able to replicate this issue, but my understanding of the problem is that it involves the Local Schedules stored on Plug Outdoor and not Schedule-type Automations executed over an Internet connection from Wyze’s servers, the latter of which should benefit from a stable Internet connection, regardless of speed.

But when I changed Internet provided from a slow DSL internet provider to a fast satellite provider my Wyze outdoor plug station functioning correctly.

Started functioning properly.

I am now having the same issue. Its very disappointing.

Add me to the list of loyal Wyze customer that will never buy another Wyze product again. I’ve got 4 different outdoor plugs that run different parts of my humongous Christmas lights/decorations display. Incredibly frustrating that NONE of them work properly anymore, because of a software problem that Wyze has completely IGNORED for nearly an entire YEAR!! Unbelievable. Making the move to ALL Kasa switches, now. Been using a total of 10 Kasa switches outdoors for several years with ZERO problems.

Decided to start using the Wyze Plug Outdoor that I purchased over a year ago. FW updated to 1.2.0.336. Setup schedules and found out plug 1 works, plug 2 doesn’t. Did I make a mistake with plug 2. After determining there was no mistake, thought about setting up automations but decided to check the forum.

FORUM TO THE RESCUE!! Now I know there is an inherent issue in the Wyze Plug Outdoor specifically to plug 2. Schedule on plug 1 and automation on plug 2 and all is well until Wyze fixes the defect. Don’t think creating a log is useful since it is clear there are many others before me.

You could be the straw that broke the camel’s back. But highly unlikely. Why harm a camel? :camel:

How did you set up the automation to get plug 2 to work? I have never used automations and when I looked at them I didn’t see one that would work for the outdoor plug to turn on socket 2 from socket 1 schedule. Likely user error .

Thanks in advance for your help!

You should be able to assign a NAME for each plug. When you create the automation, select both names of the plugs for the turn on/off times. I’ve got all 8 plugs of mine working now with an automation.

I was just coming back to the forum to remove my question as I figured it out!!! I was not tapping the plus to add an automation so I didn’t see the option that I needed . I can’t wait to see it finally work!!! So happy . Thank you for your speedy response!

Impressive layout.

Y’know, you could cut your number of Automations in half if you wanted: Have the same Automation that turns lights on at a given time turn them off at another time. You don’t have to have separate “on” and “off” Automations, though you certainly can if that’s what makes sense and works for you! :upside_down_face:
