Outdoor Camera Plans?

I would love to see an outdoor version to the wyze cam pan . The scenario would be to catch someone dumping trash in my backyard. Features that would be great to have are swappable battery operation, a charge station for extra battery, magnetic mount & bolt down mount to make thrift difficult. Skins for different color options to camouflage camera into brick, wood, darkness. Solar power would be a nice add on as well. Protective vandal proof dome add on

Black tape does not work for covering the IR source… Evidently some IR leaks… At night, with black electrical tape across the mic and what I think is the IR diode exit point above the mic, I still see light reflecting from the window I have the camera looking out of…

I suspect IR is either sourced out via the window around the lens, or there is IR leaking from inside the camera case, out via the lens window. In any case, it would be nice to be able to go into night mode, and have a software switch to kill the IR light source.

I just finished a test covering what I think is the IR diode exit port, just above the mic on the pan cam… No joy, I see a large ring reflected in the window when I cover both the mic, and the other hole in front with electrical tape, which I know is IR opaque, so either the IR exit port is the window for the lens, or there is leakage in the case allowing IR out the lens port.

Yea I bought one of those, and it came with aluminum screws and they stripped out before installing. Wasn’t weather protecting it either…its just a fancy hat for the cam

I love my wize cam. I wish you would make a weather proof box that could be mounted with the Wize Cam in it sort of like the Go Pro camera’s. I would prefer the power source instead of batteries.

As the temperature climbs, the camera starts to malfunction and constantly goes offline despite a good wifi signal. My wish is an outdoor cam that can withstand temps, but otherwise has the same features as the current cams. I would use it for motion detection recordings. I can ran a power cord BUT please make your cords longer. Even indoor, the cords are too short to place high up on the wall.

Is it in the sun? I haven’t even seen 110 yet, and the camera should handle that (in the shade). Or maybe the carport is capturing heat?

I’m going to fire up another camera and put it outside right now.

Hi Carlos,

I actually have two outside. The second cam’s connector also started getting REALLY hot at the plug which I had plugged into an orange outdoor extension cord. The extension cord is new but I wonder if the extension cord could be responsible for the plug overheating.

These use very little power so an extension cord shouldn’t affect it. Maybe swap the power adapters and see if the problem moves?

I just put mine on a table under our patio. We’re in NW Peoria, at the very edge of the desert, so we don’t have as much asphalt and buildings to trap heat. I get the sense we’re 5 degrees cooler than the city (just my guess/feel).

Power ran in my attic. Power strip with 5v 1amp usb slot.

I bought one of these. I painted it all white, my thinking is I’m in full sun and the black would make it hotter. So far I’ve had no problems with it sitting on my outdoor window sill. I had no problem with just the wyze cam is pounding rain. I figured I can always buy another for $20, no need to though. Works fine!

I have placed two of my cameras outside. One is under the front porch roof so it stays out of the weather. It keeps an eye on our front door. I put another one above my garage door,. It is in the corner as close to the door as I can get it. So far it has made it through several strong rain storms and hail. No problem. Wait, there is a problem, some insects must be able to see the infrared illumination because it does seem to attract them. I will be placing another under out back balcony to keep an eye on the basement door. I will put a piece of sheet metal above it to keep the rain off that drips through the decking. Should work great.

It’s been outside on a table for six days now, no issues. The motion detection isn’t very useful outdoors, it’s triggered too easily by wind moving trees and things like that. BUT, Wyze motion detection is better at that than what is built into my NVR. While it still detects irrelevant things like major wind motion, it ignores lighting changes, reflections, and the like. That’s pretty impressive.

These are all great ideas. I too would like to have these features in a Pan Cam.

How about a USB attached, 5v solar panel charging array. Just like this:

Waterproof the cam and bam, Done!

You also need a battery.

My wishful thinking on features to consider for the AMAZING Wyze outdoor camera:

  1. Resolution: At least 1080p (with 4x or 8x zoom without loosing much details)
  2. Night Vision: Good to have a color night vision
  3. Recording: Motion Sensor with 15 seconds prior to motion. Ability to set videos length to 1 minutes long. Optional to have Continuous Recording with an easy timeline feature to see when motion happened (similar to Lorex FLIR new app)
  4. Human detection: Ability to identify whether motion was triggered by "Person" vs "Object" (eg. Car, sunlight, trees, pets - similar to Nest Hello App)
  5. Motion sensor Light (this can trigger color night vision and deter intruders - Like Ring Floodlight)
  6. Two-way speak: With automated audio recordings (Something like - "Hello, How can I help you. Who are you looking for?")
  7. Audio Alarm: 100+ Decibel
  8. Weather Resistant: Range around -30 degrees centigrade (for Canada) to +40 degrees. Sealed Waterproof (IP65)
  9. Power/ Wiring: Rechargeable battery powered - wireless on WiFi
  10. Hub support: Samsung SmartThings. Learnt that Wyze cams now have support w/ Alexa. Great to have integration with Google Home also.

Thanks,

I agree an outdoor camera would be great even one requiring a plug. I have a cheap solution. Rather than redesign the camera and housing, make a jacket similar to the GoPro housing. It would need a top and sides with a port for lens(led) area and a skeleton bottom so the wire and any moisture could pass or evaporate. For both camera you could use a magnetic(screw to wall/magnetic to camera) wall mounted base on which to stand the camera. Battery powered also a plus but you could do a small battery and a small solar panel.

I’d love some type of outdoor mount / weather shielding! I have to park out front (no garage space, no carport) and have had my car broken into. I’d like to place a camera under the eaves to be able to pan & scan the front of the house and the parking space where I park.

IMHO, I believe a Pan Cam in a weatherproof enclosure (anti-theft) that can be mounted in multiple positions (e.g., under eaves, on side of fascia, etc.), an extra long power cable included ( rechargeable pass-through battery would be great in case of power outage); WiFi with up to 100’ distance; ability to turn on/off motion control/constant monitoring, as well as distance, with ability to control alerts only upon motion; ability to take up to a 256Gb micro USB card, and as someone else stated, a charge station for extra battery, magnetic mount & bolt down mount to make thefft difficult.
