Outdoor Camera Plans?

There are some expensive cameras and VMS that will do all that, but they haven’t reached consumer pricing. It probably won’t be long though.

why not mount it in a large pickle jar? sounds easy to me

You can always keep an eye on the Xiaomi cameras to see if they come out with an outdoor camera. Since Wyze is using their hardware, they will most likely use Xiaomi’s outdoor camera solution whenever it is developed.

Waterproof is great and necessary, built in battery would nice but not necessary. Distance from the router is within house no more than 40 feet and usually be triggered by motion only as a first iteration of the camera. A Macintosh desktop app would nice too!

It rained long and hard here in Los Angeles but my Wyze cam mounted outdoor survived because of this rubberized camera enclosure. It is like a wetsuit that hugs the camera snugly.

Where can I buy this? And whats the brand name?

I’ve seen that on Amazon: Frienda Silicone case for WyzeCam

You haven’t had any issues with the wind using this case? The reviews say because the mount is embedded in silicone, it’s too wobbly and that causes a lot of motion triggers from the camera shaking.

Wow, you mean you’ve had pounding rain directly on an exposed WyzeCam and it still works?

For those mounting outside under an eave, have you been ok not sealing the ports (e.g. the micro SD slot) with electrical tape?

Yes, it was pounding rain last night.

I did not use any tape to cover anything. The camera was exposed. It was not under an eave.

The wind made it wobbly.

Search for “frienda wyze camera cover” on ebay.

I’ve got three cameras outdoors. They have fared well through heavy rain, now we just need to see how they handle cold weather up here in Michigan. I have not done anything to seal any part of the camera.

You’ll have no issues as I have 13 and 4 outside watching chicken run and I heated chicken coup, car garage and truck garage again both I heated.

No hiccups last year in the Saranac Lake, NY freezer box called winter.

I would like to see a Wyze version of Ring’s floodlight/camera device…

I think that you are on to something vis-a-vi insects seeing the infrared. Many of my alerts at night, both indoors and out, have been from random flying critters. I was shocked to see that I have that much activity inside my living room!

I haven’t tired outside, but have put it against a window facing outside. With the low voltage lights outside, Wyze seems to pick up walking by the lights, and also picds up cars in our driveway. Seems pretty good so far.

So WyzeGuys… it has been nearly a year since you confirmed in this thread that you are working on an outdoor model… unless you are having to collect the sand from the beach to make the silicon, you should be done, or you really weren’t working on one at all. China Security just ended with many new cameras announced, and with CES coming up soon, and there will be dozens of new cameras introduced there for the North American market. You’ve clearly seen the demand for an outdoor camera, how about throwing us loyal customers a bone before we all get distracted by the next shiny object at CES and forget about Wyze cameras?

Hi @jimmer! I urge you check out this thread under #roadmap and vote at the top of the topic.

Regards…

Thanks Bill. It would be great if these threads could be merged in some way, I missed the note from Gwen because it was a new thread rather than the one we are tracking. It is encouraging that Gwen again said that you are working on an outdoor camera, but that is pretty much what Dong Sheng said nearly a year ago (okay, it progressed from “considered” to “in design” but both of these are a long way from “in manufacturing” or even “in testing.” Here’s hoping you are a lot further along than “in the design phase”…

@jimmer Hey Jim… we do usually merge threads like this, but this is such a long thread that instead, I’m going to post a link in the #roadmap thread for others to come back here to read more.

And I’m going to close this thread and suggest that anyone reading this hop over to the link below and VOTE at the top of that page.
