As I commented in the other topic, I believe that @grapefruityoda has done a lot of testing of this issue on Cam v3 and demonstrated that when the Cam restarts after ~30 minutes of lost Internet connectivity then the continuous microSD card footage that resumes after the reboot begins writing to a folder with a date and time that corresponds to the Cam’s firmware build timestamp. If you’re interested in more detail, then you can take a look at an older post like Cam Pan V3 firmware bug - #6 by grapefruityoda where some of that data is presented in tabular form. Other posts, like Wyze Cam v3 Timelapse & SD Recording Stops Without Internet Connection - #24 by grapefruityoda, indicate that the Cam does not restart after 30 minutes with certain firmware versions. The most recent post along these lines that I see in a quick search is from back in January: Wyze Cam v3, Pan v3, v3 Pro & Pan v2 Firmware Beta Test 1/8/2026 - #12 by grapefruityoda. Again, that’s about Cam v3 (which I don’t have) and indicates that the issue may have been resolved for that cam by that firmware release, but take that with a big grain of salt, because there’s always the possibility that the “feature” may have been reintroduced in other firmware released since then.
Because there are so many Cams and even different versions of some models (e.g., original Cam OG WYZECGS and the “2025 Version” WYZECGSD), each has a different firmware, and they don’t all share the same bugs/features.
I haven’t personally set aside the time to try to test this with Cam OG, and I’m not aware of anyone doing the same kind of iterative detailed testing with that Cam.
The 30 minute thing is a feature they intentionally added, not an issue. However I don’t believe it was ever implemented on the OG, it is the v3, Panv3, v4, etc that reboot every 30 mins when they have no connectivity. I haven’t tested that though so not 100% sure (also not sure if it is different between the original OG and the 2025 version).
I know the Camv3 does it. When I was testing the “cam offline” notification on one of my OGs I had it offline for more than 30 mins and didn’t notice it reboot, but I also wasn’t specifically looking for that so may have missed it.
Easy enough to test I guess, though there also could be a difference between the two different versions of the OG (mine are all the original one).
I also have only the older (WYZECGS) Cam OGs and not the newer variant.
I think Cam v3s have had a number of different variants released over time, as well, and IIRC what’s been documented for those, this reboot @~30 minutes “feature” is present or absent depending on which particular firmware version is installed on the Cam.
If I’m remembering correctly with the v3 it was a couple years ago that the behavior was added to a firmware update.
I believe all the v3s use the same firmware where the two OG variants use totally different firmware, so I’m not sure if that behavior may be present in the newer one or not.
Yes, my understanding is that all Cam v3s (regardless of minor hardware variant) are on the same firmware track, whereas the two Cam OG variants (WYZECGS & WYZECGSD) are on separate firmware tracks with distinct version numbers.
I replaced my V3 Cam, with the latest OG cam in the last month
( I have a 2nd Old OG place in the same window as the NEW OG cam)
Old OG Cam works fine, no problems at all
NEW OG Cam, records events for a while, and then stops…
If I go to check the event, after it drops off recording events, (Like today) I see it stopped recording events, yesterday evening.
I tried a couple of potential fixes
Replaced the MicroSD with a better brand, — No help, same problem
I have removed the CAM PLUS license from being assigned to to the NEW OG Cam ----- No help – still have the same problem…
