I’m guessing it’s a decision they made to potentially cut down amount of people calling in for support. Although I never had this issue, you sometimes see people reporting that their Wyze cameras won’t reconnect to their WiFi network. As a result, I see a lot of people needing to regularly power cycle the cameras in order to connect to their WiFi network whether it’s schedule restarting through software routine or using a smart plug. From Wyze’s perspective I guess this is their “built-in” feature to auto restart when the internet is not reachable. Of course as you already may know this have unintended consequences.
I followed closely with their Cam V3 beta firmware updates and there were only two specific firmware that didn’t cause to auto restart after 4.36.11.8391.
4.36.14.2259 and 4.36.14.2506 didn’t auto restart, but they might have had their other problems from the reports (mainly 4.36.14.2259). Anyways, they quickly reverted back this change on all the other beta firmware updates. They even forced an update to my cameras so I wouldn’t be on it as mentioned here.
