Thankful for all the help on here with why I cannot connect to my cameras remotly. It appears its an Xfinity firmware problem from this thread info but wyze isnt telling me this, only that they are working on it.
If so why is it that with one exception I can view my OG cameras remotely ., all others V2, V3, pan cam V2 , pan cam V3, out door cam will not connect remotely. When I’m home I can view all except when the disappointing Pan camV3 keeps dissconecting on its own, then back up the ladder again to roof gutter twice, once in back and one in front.
Thanks G
Because OG cameras use a different SDK (Iotvideo SDK from Tencent Cloud) than V2, V3, pan cam V2 , pan cam V3, & out door cam (which all use TUTK SDKs from ThroughTek) and presumably the lotvideo SDK connections methods are not being blocked in exactly the same way by the XB7 gateway.
That’s because the XB7 Advanced security isn’t trying to block local connections, it is only trying to protect your network from outside connections. So you can connect all you want when you’re on the same network, but you can’t when you leave home because the XB7 tries to prevent remote access to IoT devices and is incorrectly blocking you connecting to your Wyze cams.
Yes, if you have an XB7 gateway, you can pretty much assume that is the problem for your situation.
Go down and get an XB8, depending on your speed tier you may need to explain the issue, or they may not even ask, solve that issue once and for all. It seems you aren’t interested in trying the other suggestions from other posts (disabling advanced security/blacklist, using your own router and putting the XB7 into bridge mode or buying your own modem, etc), so just swap it out and be done with it.
As for the Panv3s, put the ladder away and update the firmware to the one released tonight, should solve that problem. Any cameras that you cannot easily access should be put on a smart plug or a plug that you can bounce using a circuit breaker or switch (without affecting too much other stuff). Even with the fix, there is always a chance a cam will need a hard reboot.
One user in the Rogers (Canadian ISP) forum which uses the same XB7 Gateway as XFinity reported that port forwarding TCP 10001 fixed this issue.
However, other users on another thread reported it didn’t work for them and upgrading to XB8 solved their issue. Like @dave27 said, upgrading to XB8 should be the simplest solution for you (that is if XFinity is willing to upgrade for you)
The Wyze cams all initiate and maintain the connections outbound which means the source port is random. So that fix shouldn’t do anything (unless maybe if you update it every time your cam reconnects and change to the current port it is using), but who knows, maybe it indirectly fixed a bug by just adding something to a table that was corrupted or inactive in the router…
Of course if you forward that port to a single cam (since you can only have one mapping) even if it did work, you’d think it would only be for that single cam. But again, who knows what the bug is and what could potentially indirectly fix it.
But like you say, why fiddle with it, just try to get it replaced, or switch to your own hardware.
Thank you for all that info Carverofchoice!
Dave please be nice. I just sent a nice thread asking a question obout the wyze OG. I have spoke to somebody regarding all the options that I will have to do try when I get back from vacation. I’ll never get it done by then. So I am interested in trying something. You don’t know what else or who i’ve been talking to. Just didn’t understand why the ogs would work if it was xfinity problem. So I guess with all your advanced knowledge, you explained it to me. So thank you.
I’ve given you tons of info and advice about your problem, I consider that being nice. However, you keep asking the same/similar questions in various threads, but not responding at all to the options that have been presented to you as to whether you’ve tried any of them or not. So I just made it clear, if you don’t want to troubleshoot what you have now, get a new router and be done.
I don’t see everything posted. . All I see Is when I get an e mail. I have already said thank you to everyone who has helped me. Maybe you missed that. Maybe also, what you missed in my latest thread was mainly regarding the OG cameras. It didn’t make sense to me that they connect if it’s a xfinity firmware. But you answered that in a, you’ve got this complicated verbage that i don’t necessarily understand. I didn’t ask for additional help on fixing the problem, but you had to go there again. So I will say it again.Be nice to me.
I’m good now. I don’t need any further help from you.
