Now we have a new icon on our event recordings to advertise a Cam Unlimited Pro subscription. I already pay $99 a year so why would I pay more than double for a new subscription? Yeah, it’s supposed to be better blah, blah, blah. But my experience with their AI is that it’s hit or miss. I’m not going to pay $260 a year for this "better’ version and it upsets me that this invasive blue/green star icon is at the top of my event recordings, instead of in the settings were it belongs. Wyze is messing with what I am already paying for and that’s not cool.
Can you send me a screenshot of what you are seeing so I can go talk to the team about it?
Yes! It’s on the main Events page and on every recorded event page.
That’s what I said.
Just don’t click it? That’s not obtrusive or taking over the screen.
Many companies (not just Wyze) will try to upsell you on products or services. The other day I was in Costco and was approached to upgrade to an Executive Membership. I politely said “No thank you, I am happy with my Gold Star card and price”.
I did not even notice a new Wyze icon on the Events page until I read this thread.
Literally every app that offers a service has tiers. My automatic pet feeder wants me to subscribe to a pet health recommendation service every time I accidentally hit a button in their app. I don’t find it intrusive because it’s not nagging me.
But, if your app has constant pop-ups to sell me the paid tier… that’s a no-go for me.
It’s very obvious and obtrusive!
I understand companies will try to upsell us, that’s not the issue. The issue is they used to have it in the Account page not in my face on Events page and with each recorded event replay page.
But pushing me to a $260 a year subscription from a $100 a year subscription just won’t happen from me when the current AI can’t even see a large dog walking with someone. Or not seeing a person but can see a parked vehicle. I don’t care about parked vehicles, like I don’t care about a tree or rock or leaves. And they keep adding different tags to tell Wyze when they get something wrong, like insects or birds, yet the AI has not once tagged those things. And sure with Cam Unlimited Pro you get 60 days of cloud storage vs 14 days with Cam Unlimited and the AI can call emergency services, but I don’t trust that because those services can charge after so many false alarm calls. And again, the AI is just not 100% accurate yet. But Wyze claims with the Pro subscription the AI is way better…well the AI should be better for all the plans.
People justifying this BS are the reason this problem exists in the first place. Just because everyone else is trying to milk you every way that they can doesn’t mean there is nothing wrong with these practices. It’s baffling that people have been so conditioned that they see nothing wrong with buying a device that can’t do what the box says it can without a perpetual payment plan. How are you not embarassed to justify companies taking advantage of your naivety? You paid for the device. Why are you okay with continuing to pay someone just to use it? Why are you okay with being upsold on a single feature when the device is already yours? Soon people like you will be okay with buying coffee and then paying again to be able to drink it. Everyone else is charging per sip, so there’s nothing wrong with it, am I right?
Well said!
You should probably sell the cameras and delete the app. Seems like they are useless to you.
The cameras aren’t useless but the software is! Wyze needs to focus more on the software and stop releasing new hardware for a while.
Software is working great. The new Stories feature is dope. I’m not sure what you are talking about.
I just noticed it after reading your post.
For me, I have reached a point to where I just ignore any new icons on the top.
The AI push by many companies, is getting very long in the tooth.
I think the AI bubble will eventually burst some, when companies realize people are just not that eager to have all the AI stuffed into everything they use.
Microsoft finally realized the customer outcry to STOP shoving Co Pilot into everything Microsoft makes…and MS publically stated, they “Got the message” from customers, and actually have started removing Co-Pilot from all the apps Microsoft was stuffing it into.
Wyze needs to realize this too, as does many other companies.
Here is the Wyze NEW AI popup
This one
NEW Wyze AI ad
#1 - A.I. won’t go anywhere. It’s for life. It may change it’s face… but it’s ability to do MANY complex things unattended is why it won’t go anywhere. There is not a replacement for this tech. The industry needs the tech to operate now. You can’t take it back.
#2 - Dismissing any tech simply because it uses A.I. is completely missing the point and shows the publics ignorance to the topic.
#3 - Wyze has been using A.I. since they started person detection. Stories is the natural progression of the tech. And it is a game-changer with the cameras. I love the way it batches up notifications and strings them together.
Would you buy them used? What part of what I said implied that the cameras are useless? What an odd takeaway. Do you enjoy being charged to use the things you already own? When you buy things, do you look for products that require a monthly plan? Just curious, how many subscriptions do you pay for every month since that’s your thing?
