I gave up on Ring because of the increase in annual fees. Long time Wyze customer and so added the two camera doorbell. Works great. Set up notifications (all types). However, it never notifies me as significantly as Ring did. I only see Wyze notifications along with all of my other types, news, social, etc, so I tend to ignore those - and miss sometimes that someone is at the door. Any advice?
Can you provide additional information?
- Wyze iOS App Version being used
- Which Video Doorbell are you using
- Firmware Version of the Doorbell
- Do you have Cam Plus, Cam Plus Unlimited, Cam Protect
- Screen shot of the Detection Settings
- Screen Shot of the Event Recording Settings
- Screen Shot of the Notification Settings
Once we get these, the community will let you know what we see.
For me, I always set my Detection Settings / Sensitivity relatively high. But I only Notify on Person, Pet, or Package. I have the Duo Doorbell
Duo cam door bell
Firmware 1.0.0.20
Don’t know how to find app level but I keep it current
No plan. SD card only.
With android you can assign any system sound (or any sound you want) to a notification, replacing the “app provided sound”. However I think someone said iOS doesn’t allow that? I’m not familiar with modern iOS so not sure.
I can select"sound" slider for the Wyze app, can’t customize it, but at least it is better. TY very much.
At least you can choose from the 3 sounds in the Wyze app and adjust the volume in your OS. Limited, but hopefully you can find a combo that works.
Another thing to consider is there are notification manager apps out there that allow you to customize things quite a bit, however again since I’m not an iOS user I don’t know if those are available/as useful as they are on Android.
Not seeing that as an option in the Wyze app. Where do you see it?
The 3 sounds? Maybe that’s android only too? @habib, @carverofchoice or any other iOS users maybe can clarify.
If you mean notification manager apps that would be 3rd party software you’d find in the app store, the same users above can clarify if they are available for iOS or not. iOS is a bit more locked down than android so the options may be limited.
Again, thank you Dave. Not seeing an iOS app but will keep it in mind. IFTTT might work but it’s a premiums app.
As @dave27 mentioned, the three sounds are under Account>Notifications>Push Notifications>Notification Sound. You’ll have four options, System Default, Wyze Sound 1, 2 and 3. Unfortunately iOS doesn’t support custom sounds anymore. For some stupid reason Apple took that away eons ago. Also, there are no 3rd party apps available.
For future reference, this should be within the Wyze app at Account ➜ About. Near the top of the screen, beneath the Wyze logo, you should see the app’s version.
The other thing you should be able to do with the doorbell, which I haven’t yet seen mentioned in this topic, is enable VoIP. That makes a doorbell button press hit your phone like a regular phone call so at least if someone intentionally rings your doorbell that doesn’t get lost within all the other notification noise that you might choose to ignore.
Toward that end, you may also want to spend some time tweaking your detection settings (Motion Detection Sensitivity, Detection Zone, etc.) in order to reduce the “false positives” that you don’t really want to be notified about, and that can take some time as a trial-and-error exercise, especially without a subscription, but tuning that could make it less likely you’ll miss something important (like someone intentionally ringing your doorbell).
Right.
Can’t get it to show up on my iwatch either. I guess since I had Ring so many years this stuff worked itself out. I guess the same for Wyze
Gotcha - but to clarify it is ONLY when they press the doorbell do I want to explicitly know.
That’s exactly why I suggested VoIP.
Not in my wheelhouse, Crease.
It is pretty easy, right in the app settings you put in a phone number, and it will call you if someone rings the doorbell. May or may not be what you want but it is a very obvious difference between a doorbell button push and other notifications.
You also have the option of using Amazon Alexa, Google Home, Apple Home, etc to notify you on those devices (even bring it up on the screen for video devices like the Echo Show) automatically when someone pushes the doorbell (in addition to a sound, and I believe the sound options on there are more flexible).
I’m not sure how to interpret your comment, but since you’ve already marked a solution then maybe it’s a non-issue at this point.
If you’re interested in trying it, though, then you should be able to navigate in the app to Account ➜ Notifications ➜ Push Notifications ➜ Voice Over IP and set the options there that you want to use. You don’t have to enter a phone number. My understanding is that it’s more a matter of giving the app permission to ring the phone as an alternative to the regular push notifications that a camera event might generate.
I don’t have a Duo Cam Doorbell, but that’s what I’ve done on my Video Doorbell v2, and I would expect the steps to be similar:
If you decide that you don’t like that, then you can always disable it and go back to regular push notifications.
Crease, thank you!!!
I really appreciate it.
That works great.
