Missing “Turn floodlight on for…” for new Floodlight Cams

I don’t know how you guys are able to do any automation involving the floodlights…
The missing “Turn floodlight on for…” on the new Wyze Floodlight Cam (and Pro as well) is killing me!
Meaning after another device trigger my floodlights they stays on forever.

Have you look tried going to the settings of the Floodlight Pro or other, select Floodlight settings, then Motion and select All Motion or Smart Detection.

From their you can set the Light Off Timer as well.

I have a schedule set for sunset to sunrise for turning the light on if a person or pet is seen. Then I have it set to turn off in 3 minutes.

Yes, I do have the Light Off Timer set to 3min, but unfortunately it does not apply when triggered by automation.

absolutely true. What do you have triggering it? More Curious than anything else. Something different than Person, Pet, or Vehicle?

it is triggered… by another device, not by the cam itself or sensor.
Context:
I have a 600-ft entryway and I want my main entry cam to trigger the floodlights around the house when a car comes in at night, but just for a few minutes.
(House cams are too far from the road to trigger themselves anyway)

Any of you know a way to accomplish a Floodlight to turn off when triggered by another camera / Event via an Automation?

@alcyon , there is another way, but will require a Wyze plug. turn on for x minutes. Then when the Plug goes off, trigger an action to turn off the floodlights.

So basically:

  • Rule 1: Camera see something and triggers the floodlights to go on and the plug to turn on for x minutes.

  • Rule 2: When the plug goes off, trigger the floodlights to go off.

Would be much easier to have a “Turn floodlights on for…” rule, but with what we have now, I like your idea, thanks, you are very creative!

I do the reverse. I have a flood light V2 turns on Floodlights managed by Wyze switches.

But same concept. @alcyon are you using Wyze switches?

The plug idea is also a good one presented by @spamoni

Thanks for tagging me. I don’t own any Cam Floodlight products, though, so I’m not going to be very useful to this topic. :grimacing:

This is exactly what I was thinking, given @alcyon’s use case.

I would agree. I am going to check to see if there is a Wishlist item for it.

Hope the plug works out for you. I actually have done that before and it worked quite well.

I do a similar thing through Alexa to view my Doorbell on a Show I have.

Basically when the doorbell is pressed, I trigger the video to be shown on my Show via a command as if I asked for it.

Then I have another routine to turn it off after about a minute.

Floodlight V1 has “Turn on Floodlight for” xx minutes. Why can’t V2 and pro have the same action? Is it not supported by the hardware?

Exactly my point, I have replaced all my Floodlights V1 with V2 so for me it is a regression. The “Turn on Floodlight for xx minutes” feature is something I used to rely on, but lost since the new hardware (or is it just a software issue?).

Seems like it should be a software issue, and it’s something that other users have been asking about for a while, for example:

As @spamoni alluded, there’s at least one Wishlist topic where it’s been requested, including by @p2788deal:

I’d rather have Wyze fix the issue with the floodlight pro not turning on when there’s motion. I was disposing trash last night and it was dark the whole time. Very frustrating.

This may be because the Floodlight V1 is actually a V3 Camera. The Floodlight is an add on to the camera. The other floodlights are actual floodlights.

I feel the option should be there on the other floodlights, but wanted to point out why the V1 had the option.

Yeah, you’re preaching to the choir. Lots of us have been nagging them about this since day 1. I seriously can’t fathom why it isn’t implemented yet when lots of other lighting products have this already.
