Make wyze products compatible with Xfinity

Please make Wyze products compatible with Xfinity, especially the home monitoring

Are you using a Xfinity gateway like a XB7 or XB8 or do you use your own cable modem and WiFi router?

Lots of people use Xfinity with Wyze. I also used to until I upgraded to better internet.

Xfinity does have an old gateway that has problems with some IoT devices (not just with Wyze) but there are lots of ways to resolve this. A couple of popular options are the following:

  • Get Xfinity to send you an updated gateway that doesn’t have the security incompatibility glitch (avoid the XB7 gateway like the plague)
  • Switch the gateway to bridge mode and use a real router. I suggest doing this anyway because Xfinity does some really concerning things when they get to control your Internet traffic. You’ll have a much better internet experience with a real router from a trusted brand not using Xfinity DNS, etc.

Looks like the XER10 is the newest Xfinity gateway. Still glad I now use my own cable modem and router.

OP may be referring to xfinity’s offering of cameras. It’s a very limited offering (1 camera?) and some limited online monitoring.

I’ve been with comcast/xfinity for about 30 years. I’ve been through all of their routers, including the XB7 and the XB8. I never have experienced any of the issues experienced by forum members. But then when I get a new router I disable all that crap, fix the limited firewall and set it up my way. The problem I’ve seen with them is limited choice and information-and it’s gotten worse over the past couple of years. I can understand that when you have 10’s of millions of users you want to limit what the user can screw up. They have done a good job of that.

To their credit they have been a good data/voice provider. They are reliable, quick to provide services and treat their long time customers well. Yes, I have given them their $15 dollars a month for decades but they have constantly upgraded my speed and I’ve never paid for a router upgrade.

If you want plug n play simplicity then they are a good choice. If you want more information and control then they are not.

Which brings me to a desicion I mase a couple of months ago. I decided to not use their equipment anymore. I bought a new modem Hitron modem (Cuda56) and TP-Link BE19000 router. I now have complete control and more info than I need. I’ve held off doing this as at my age things could happen overnight and I didn’t want my better half to become a network manager without her consent. But she told me to do it–so I complied,
