iPhone wont connect to camera when away from home

All the sudden my iphone wont connect to my camera when I am away from the house or our wifi. My phone says it is set to work with internet.

Are you using the new 3.0 app or the 2.5 app?

If the 3.0 app, is it only not streaming on the favorites page, or will it stream when you open the camera page itself?

Do you happen to have Comcast Xfinity Internet? If so, do you have an XB7 Gateway?

When away from home, I have the same problem. I am unable to view any of my cameras. Comcast is my ISP but not sure of the modem/router model since I am not home to check the model. Before I call Comcast, and have to play the blame game with them, is there an issue with Comcast/ gateway/Wyze app? I am using the 3.0 app.

There is a known issue with the Comcast XB7 gateway and Wyze cameras and some Philips Hue devices (and I’ve seen many other issues with their gateways and/or advanced security with friends and family as well). RIght now, the XB7 is the worst offender and people have solved the issue by going with XB8 (or if you don’t need the XB8 for your speed tier, even the XB6 will probably fix it, but I don’t think they’re providing those anymore).

If you just want to test before taking on Comcast, if you have or can borrow your own router, put the Comcast gateway into bridge mode a temporarily test with the non-ISP router.

But some have had luck just walking into the Comcast store with their old router and swapping it. It may depend on your speed tier as to how easy it is, but many of their reps don’t really care.

You can also try disabling their “advanced security” - I used quotes because it is anything but advanced. That has fixed it for some, but it does appear the XB7 may have some issues beyond that too, there hasn’t been a clear cut answer as to whether disabling advanced security totally solves it or not.

Thanks Dave27! Would this problem just all of a sudden appear? I have used the same cameras and the same gateway for years and never had this issue. This problem just reared its ugly head on or about mid-August.

Well you’re dealing with two things - your ISP pushing updates to your router (firmware and/or blacklist updates) and Wyze firmwares sometimes changing the servers they connect to or how they connect, which may trigger the issue in the ISP router where it didn’t before. I’ve seen people mentioning that after a firmware update they could no longer access from outside (and they mostly had the XB7 router in question).

A friend is having this problemtoday

he has xb7. He can connect with the wyze web browser link to the cams

but not with the wyze 3 app on iPad or Android phone.

We tried reset & restart as he can see the devices but they will not stream in the app… it just goes 1, 2, 3 …

But cams can be seen in browser for compatible cams.

You answered your own question.

They can try disabling advanced security but it is unclear if that totally fixes it or not. Best bet is to try and get the ISP to swap it to an XB8.

I just checked my XB7. Code has been around for a year

That’s the firmware version. The advanced security definitions are updated much more frequently.
