Introducing Wyze Bird Feeder - Launched 8/27/2024

I was given a bird buddy as a gift last year. I actually took it apart and put it inside a weathered wood frame with a bent old license plate for the roof. So it looks like an old feeder and not some brightly colored plastic thing.

In the process I made it easier to refill.

But the people who tell you the software is not accurate are just wrong. When a bird appears it takes both a 30 second video and a still and notifies you that bird species X visited and gives you the option of saving it to a gallery.

I’m not a birder but a good friend is, and I added her to the notification list and and she says she’s never seen a misidentified bird.

It also allows you to make your feeder public and you can see birds captured by feeders in all sorts of places. You can imagine some exotic species from places like Hawaii for example.

Rather than reinventing their software and database, Wyze should think about licensing and private labeling it, offering the ID module as a subscription upgrade and share that revenue with Bird Buddy. A win-win. Wyze shouldn’t want to take on a major, specialized, ongoing development and maintenance burden for a niche product when it struggles to make things work for its core business.

Actually, when I first saw this my immediate reaction (until I realized the ID part was missing) was it was a private label BB. Perhaps there’s also a corresponding relationship for Wyze to supply private label cameras. That way each company can focus on what its business really is and benefit from the other’s.

Just my birdbrained thoughts.

I have now had my Wyze Bird Feeder for 5 months and it is performing well. Below zero temperatures have not cracked the plastic and direct sunlight has not faded the colors. The only issue I had was back in November when the water would not drain from the seed tray. The seed began rot and eventually backed up to prevent new seed feeding. I redrilled all of the holes with a 7/64-inch bit which solved the problem. Even with freeze/thaw cycles throught the winter the tray drained cleanly and there was no appreciable loss of seed with the larger diameter holes. The overall design has proven to be excellent.

I agree 100% with all you’ve written here. I had to drill as well. The solar panel struggled in the winter a bit, due to low light and the angle of the sun here in Indiana.

That was only for about a month maybe? Then the panel started catching sun and staying charged. Works great.

That video of the Carolina Wren was pretty cool. I’m getting a lot of sparrows and whatnot. Kind of a boring selection in my neighborhood.

In case anyone’s missed this…

Yeah Spring is here and the Bears are awake. A Black Bear knocked down my brother’s bird feeder again in rural New York.

Hello! I’m looking at getting a Smart AI bird feeder and would love to stick with Wyze products. Is there any movement on an AI subscription to identify the birds yet? :eyes:

Welcome to the Forum, @Case_N_Point!

I haven’t yet seen anything to that effect, but if they do then I still hope they’ll call it Cheep:trade_mark:. :crossed_fingers::grin:

They most definitely have to call it that if it’s not trademarked yet. lol

It was the fourth time. His normal operation is to bring the feeder inside at night, but sometimes he forgets to do it and has to pay the price.
I told him to just put out some :cut_of_meat: :cut_of_meat:.

:service_dog:

He has an old dog who is hearings challenged and she does like to sleep a lot. She used to be a good hunter but now she just clutches her purse.

Hey, that’s me! According to MrsG, I have selective listening.

I rarely sleep more than 3 hours at night. Up for a few minutes, then back for another 2-3 hours. My best sleep is between 1am and 9 am for some reason. I have sleep apnea and was prescribed a CPAP machine. I really tried to get used to the mask and tubes and noise and hassle of using only distilled water. A relative on my wife’s side used to wake up gasping for air. He uses his CPAP religiously otherwise he could die. Me, I just take a nap during the day. My father did also. Right around 1400. He lived to 90.
