It is best to mount them so the entrance is pointing east. That way the morning sun warms the box and keeps the eggs warmer than if the box pointed another direction.
The newly hatched chicks like live mealworms because they are easier to digest. I only put about 20 per day in the feeder once the chicks have hatched.
Love how these cameras are able to get views of these Robins as they created their nest, laid their eggs and as the babies hatched! We will continue to watch as they mature over the next 2 weeks, and fly out of the nest. We will miss them, but congratulate them on their journey. Perhaps we will see the babies come back next year to make their own nests and bring more baby robins to our neighborhood!
Yes, the literal ‘empty nest syndrome’ can be difficult to experience the first few times. What is encouraging is that the likelihood of those chicks making a new nest next year in that spot is pretty good. It is an established familiar location.
