And to really be safe, they should lock up all the zip ties, just in case!
I am experiencing the same issue with my two Wyze Cam Pan Solar cameras. They were assembled and installed correctly, have worked perfectly for several months, and I want to keep using them.
Removing them from my app serves no purpose, as I plan to leave them in place regardless of functionality.
Furthermore, I fail to understand how disconnecting them from the app prevents any battery issues caused by incorrect screw usage—an error I certainly did not make.
I was responding to OP Profile - jasonscottcarter - Wyze Forum
The link in the OP to keep an eye on progress takes me to Wyze chat bot btw. Not really sure how that’s helpful. As most others have said would like to be able to get status updates on this.
I believe that is when he discusses mounting it separately. When he speaks about attaching it to the battery he is very clear that the small screws should be used. With that said, if you find Dave’s video confusing, I highly suspect you’re not alone.
Personally, I still hold the opinion that this camera will be completely recalled and cease to work in due time. I do not foresee the CPSC allowing the current design to move forward regardless of warning labels or updated instructions. Those itty bitty machine screws are so easy to lose and misplace. Using screws even slightly longer to mount the solar panel to the battery is going to result in puncturing the battery. We’re a good 5-weeks from the announcement and so far the only update we’ve had from WYZE is nothing more than high hopes.
As always, time will tell all.
Whatever the case, a decision needs to be made so we can all move on with our lives.
Quite a dilemma here. I was able to purchase this camera off Amazon, but you shouldn’t allow consumers to buy it if it can’t even be installed through the app. I don’t know if I should wait or just return the camera.
Hey all, we are getting very close to the finish line with the CPSC here…they’ve pushed back the launch date a few times now, but it’s now scheduled for June 4 when they should let us turn everything back on again. We’re ready to go as soon as we get the green light. I’m so sorry we’ve been so limited on the information we can release around this due to the nature of it. We’ve been doing our best to adhere to all the guidelines the CPSC has given us so that we can get this resolved asap. We’re almost there.
We have had all retail listings pulled on this since the beginning of April, If it was on Amazon must have been used or an unauthorized 3rd party seller. You can return if you’d like, but should be resolved June 4.
How about they put a checkbox on the checkout screen that says, 'I am not stupid and will use common sense and the right size screws to assemble my solar pan cam.
Mandatory they checked the “I am not stupid” box to make the purchase.
I made the purchase on Amazon way back in January, just had not had an opportunity to install them yet. However Amazon did not relay the safety notice until about a week ago. If they do get the green light June 4, I will definitely keep them as they are exactly what I need. Thanks!
For those of us who didn’t drive a wood screw into the Solar Cam and are still using it, it would be very helpful if Wyze continued to support its customers experiencing problems with the Solar Pan Cam. For example, some cameras stop recording Events, but you can still see the recorded events on the SD Card in the timeline. But you can’t download them. This doesn’t affect all Solar Cam Pans. Some work just fine.
There is another problem: on another Solar Cam Pan where events ARE working, playback is only about 3 to 6 seconds long, even if the video is longer (FW 2.0.0.2130 / App v3.13.0 (784))
We have done all the standard Tier 1 troubleshooting, like rebooting the camera and uninstalling and reinstalling the App. The only thing we haven’t tried is to remove the camera and re-add it, as we are being told that the feature is disabled even for already deployed and active cameras
Unless Wyze is going to take them entirely off the market and recall them all, please continue to support and release updates to address problems with the Solar Cam Pan for existing customers who have already safely deployed the cameras.
I’m willing to wait for the June 4 resolution, but not much longer than that.
It seems to me that for the vast majority of us who installed correctly, there should be some kind of patch that would let us perform simple maintenance like changing the SSID.
name another product that suggest screwing something into a sealed battery case.
Where else would you put the screw holes? Separate the battery from the camera?
Easier said than done.
No Sir, I would simply have everyone mount the solar panel separately and not allow mounting it onto the battery case at all. If I was forced to allow it in the design, I would come up with some sort of “clip and lock” (if you will) design versus using screws. Mounting things to a battery case with screws is just asking for trouble.
There’s a really simple solution for mounting the solar to the camera and it’s right in front of us. Look back at the Wyze portable, the little square box battery powered camera with the base unit. The the mount for the camera has a big round magnet and the camera/battery just has a socket. You simply place the camera on the mount and SNAP, the magnet grabs and it’s held tight as heck. No screws, no clips, no danger of idiots idiotic things.
And speaking of the old portable Wyze cameras, anyone know how we can get the USB plug fixed on them. We have 2 of them and they work great, but one of them the USB port doesn’t make good connection anymore so even though it works great, we can’t re-charge it. Off topic, sorry.
I have been with WYZE since 2018 and do not recall a model called “portable”. I’ll take your word for it though.

I think the reference to “portable” may be the first solar cam. I have two of them and they have a base station and the mount does use a magnet. The camera simply has a recess in the camera and it magnetically adheres to the mount.
Sorry, that is the camera name on our Wyze app. The Wyze Cam Outdoor:
