Important Safety Notice: Wyze Solar Cam Pan

We bought our 3 off Amazon and returned 2. But since we still have one, this morning we got this from Amazon. Amazing what one dolt can do to cause so many ripples across a product line.

It’s not the design it is someone that is to stupid to operate a screwdriver! The wood screws are much bigger than the machine screws supplied and a different color even. So this is 100% the fault of a complete idiot that should be restricted from operating hand tools

Glad I setup the cameras when I got them. Like I stated before… I have one deployed working flawlessly.. the other needs to be on a different SSID at a different location. I guess I’ll just setup a guest network to get other camera online at alternate location.

Fair enough and clearly plenty of other people feel the same way. With that said, I kindly challenge you and anyone else reading this to name another product that suggest screwing something into a sealed battery case.

If your Solar Cam Pan is not setup and working today, you will not be able to set it up until WYZE allows you to do so. Thus far, they have not provided anyone with a timeline as to when that might be. Five or so weeks and counting so far.

This is why we pay 3x the cost for products, because we have stupid people that have zero common sense. Stupid drives up the cost on everything. Manufacturers have to account for stupidity when designing things.

All that said, what do I know… I am just an owner of a Wyze Solar PanCam with common sense that hasn’t had any issues.

We had 3 of them but one day, 2 of them just totally stopped working. Have had that happen with other Wyze cameras and never a big deal, we delete them and reinstall them. But after deleting them, the Wyze app would not let us reinstall them. So rather than seeing if we could regain connection, Wyze had us brick them. We design machinery and in many cases you slap on a sticker that says HOT SURFACE - DO NOT TOUCH or something like that, and OSHA is cool with it. If someone ignores the sticker and grabs the hot part and burns themselves, no one makes us shut down every machine with that hot part on it. I can understand Wyze being cautious, but you can’t fix, and can rarely stop, stupid.

That’s why I go back to the fact that decades ago the manual for a car showed you how to adjust the valves, now it warns you not to drink the contents of the battery.

In the meantime, any recommendations on a comparable alternative to this solar cam pan? Anyone try this camera? Reolink Argus PT + Solar Panel Amazon.com : REOLINK Security Cameras Wireless Outdoor, Pan Tilt Solar Powered, 5MP 2K+ Color Night Vision, 2.4/5GHz WiFi, Smart Cameras for Home Security, Works with Home Hub, Argus PT + Solar Panel : Electronics

Had not heard of that but had enough of a base station with the Wyze Portable. I like the way the Solar just connected to Wifi and didn’t need anything else.

Any updates on this? Seems this is now over a month old but I just got a notice from Amazon regarding this issue. I have not yet opened or installed these cams (I bought 3!). Will these ever get released again for use?

I was going to keep mine, but someone had the wisdom to remove them during the last update. Now they are of no use to me, so I will be returning mine for a refund.

It has been 15-days since the last update from a WYZE employee in this thread. The WYZE co-founder ended that post with this sentence: “Look for more detailed updates shortly.”

Use your best judgement and make of that what you will. Look on the bright side, being a WYZE customer is a fantastic way to exercise your longsuffering virtue.

It’s funny because I don’t think I even read the instructions and was able to figure it out.

It looks like given the lack of “wyzdom” on the part of the company, (to say nothing of no communication!) that I’ll be moving to that Reolink model too.

I’m starting to think the “some dope used the wrong screw” excuse to end the most amazing camera option they make is just an excuse for a much bigger issue that they don’t want us to know about.

What company completely disables cameras that are already installed and working fine?

Nah… I have 6 WyZe cameras and I’m about to chuck them all and cancel my account. This is beyond ridiculous. Tell us the truth. Release the damn files. I think Americans are sick enough of being lied to as it is. I’m done with the lies and gaslighting.

I agree. I was thinking perhaps the solar cameras were being used in a way they didn’t intend. Perhaps being connected on wifi systems other than the owners and being used to monitor places where the owner did not have permission to hook them up. Either way, it is BS that my totally great solar cameras are junk until they come up with a solution.

I had this issue as well a long time ago and unfortunately they are right, because… all though one would think this issue is in the “cloud” with the service. For some reason the Wyze team will require you to reset your camera to factory defaults which will then make it inoperable since you cannot setup.

long story short just about every troubleshooting step with this camera is reset.

Hey Dave,
What is the update? I had these cameras installed for security and due to some low IQ people have a greater risk of no security cameras. Get it done.

When my cell phone service is out for several days, they credit me on my bill because I didn’t have access to cell service. When our cable TV (yes, we still have cable) is out for several days, we get credit because we didn’t have TV service. So, Wyze, how are you going to compensate these thousands of users who you have left without security, without recorded events, without the ability to keep our families safe and our homes protected??? Hard to put a price on that but Wyze just seems to ignore us and say “… just wait, we’re working on it”.

Hey Ford, saw someone mount their wheels onto their pickup with zipties and their wheels fell off while driving. Better shut down every vehicle with wheels until you can figure out how to keep idiots from using zipties to hold their wheels on. PUH-lease Wyze, you look just as silly.
