Important Safety Notice: Wyze Solar Cam Pan

When WYZE refunded your subscription, was that money refunded to your original payment method? If so, here is my complete speculative guess as to what is going down.

Your subscription was purchased directly from WYZE. Thus, WYZE was able to issue a refund to your original payment method (likely credit or debit card). Your camera on the other hand was purchased from Amazon. Thus, WYZE is not able to refund your money to your original payment method and instead issued you a store credit. The odds of them cutting everyone that purchased elsewhere a check is likely slim to none.

With that said, they should be able to issue everyone that did not purchase from them a visa card with the refunded balance on the card. However, WYZE usually does not think things through or think ahead in any way [look no further than the bad product design that caused this safety recall]. Without thinking ahead and in an effort to keep costs down, they are left with no option other than issuing store credit to those that return a camera which was not purchased directly from WYZE.

Out of curiosity, did WYZE make you ship the camera back? If so, did they provide a return shipping label or did you have to ship it back at your own expense?

1 of 2 solar cams self disconnected, following the troubleshooting guide I removed the device and ATTEMPTED to reinstall. Now I can’t and the “return policy” requires more information than I feel is necessary to exchange for 2 wired units.

I changed from WUUK to WYZE because of connectivity issues & now it’s the same “crap”, different company.

It appears this “self reported” concern is an individual installation issue that affects ALL people.

Next rep removed the credit and said a check would be issued. No timeline on the check. They gave me a return label but at this time they do not want me shipping it back since that involves touching the camera

Logically if you installed.your camera without drilling the battery they should allow you to continue the use. I had 4 installed and one lost its connection so that one is dead to me. The other 3 function normally. “You can’t fix stupid”.

No, but you can muffle it with duct tape  We had 3 of the cameras and 2 lost connection, when I tried to reinstall it was locked out. Already deleted it so nothing I could do. I bought mine on Amazon and I checked and I was on the last day for returning. So I yanked the 2 dead ones down, just threw them in a random box all tangled together, and sent them back. As soon as UPS scanned the barcode I had my refund. I bought 2 new CAM Pro’s with solar panels which were about 25% more expensive than the solar ones but I have not installed yet.

50 YEARS AGO THE OWNER’S MANUAL FOR A CAR SHOWED YOU HOW TO ADJUST THE VALVES, TODAY THEY TELL YOU NOT TO DRINK THE FLUID IN YOUR BATTERY.

It’s a perfect cam and I need it working in my farm asap

I used to build solar my self solar panel controller and a car batttery with wire connections flying around but takes lots of effort but an advantage with continuous recording over ur product

@WyzeDave any updates on this issue being addressed or the timeline for the app to allow installation of this camera again?

We are being patient but would like more frequent updates if they are possible.

Thanks

At this rate, we’re going to get GTA 6 before we can use our cameras again.

Dang it! We bought two Wyze Battery Cam Pro’s to replace two of the Solar Cam’s we returned and even though the picture is clear, it’s doesn’t pan or tilt, just a fixed aim camera. I was my Solar Cam’s back!!!

I just wanted to chime in with my frustration at a properly installed camera that is now non-working. I agree with everyone else, bricking the units due to a concern at someone using 3rd party parts to drill into the unit seems harsh.

My use case: The location wasn’t getting enough sun, so the battery eventually died. The Wyze control panel says it’s disconnected. I have not removed it from the app.

It was a month or two until I could get to the location. I pulled it down, plugged it in to charge manually. (I’ve also relocated the bracket, so it should get better sun now)

Now it won’t reconnect. I’ve given it a day. I know it’s charged.

Does Wyze remove cameras from the cloud if they don’t connect? Obviously, the standard fix to remove it and re-add it won’t work.

Solar pan cameras

I see the issue reported about using the wrong screws when installing the solar panel on the camera. In my installation the solar panel will not be directly connected to the camera but installed in a different location. Why can we not get a setup for this type installation? Installing like this presents no danger. Currently I have 2 cameras I am not able to setup because someone was stupid and used the wrong screws. Why can you not place a note in the setup instructions to allow us to utilize our cameras?

[Mod Note]: Your topic and associated replies were merged to this product Wyze News topic for better visibility to Wyze.

Wyze isn’t going to mess with the CPSC especially when it comes to a possible fire hazard. They have to wait for the updated instructions to be reviewed and approved by CPSC before they can allow anyone to use the camera. They do have information on the link at the top of this forum on how to return the camera if you do not want to wait.

No matter how hard they try, they can’t fix stupid. You are entirely right!

Would like to trade my new Battery Cam Pro’s as they were more expensive and do not pan or tilt. Ugh. Hopefully the new instructions include things like:

  • Do not attach solar panel by driving nails through the solar cell
  • Do not use oxy-acetylene torch to clean debris off lens face
  • Do not use as a ramp to lift cars exceeding 2,000lbs
  • Do not attach camera to airplanes you do not own
  • Do not submerge in pot of boiling water before adding noodles
  • Do not expose camera or solar panel to more than 100rem of radiation
  • Do not superglue camera to exposed body part (yours or someone else’s)
  • Do not drop from buildings higher than 5 stories (50 feet)
  • Do not use in lava or pyroclastic flow

As they say, make something idiot proof, and they’ll build a better idiot.

One major consideration to add to your comprehensive list - warning that the included screws are not edible

This is a complete user error. Please restore our camera setups. I had to change wifi, and I can’tmove reinstall because someone didn’t follow directions. I believe they are the best solar cameras I have ever used. Please give those of us who can follow directions an option to add these cameras. Perhaps a disclaimer that mentions fire hazard etc.

Patiently waiting

Dear Wyze Team,

While I understand the reason based on your explanation and understand new users being frustrated with not being able to set up their devices for the first time use…

My question is; you have a database that should show whose cameras are already installed and working. Anything installed over 3 months was obviously installed correctly. Therefore for people like myself and many others who purchased this camera a long time ago and sadly must reset the camera to get it to reconnect to our networks, could you not give us the capability?

Otherwise like most have said, I’m sitting here with a brick waiting for a pretty simple documentation fix to be honest.

So true. Please… enable our perfectly working cameras. Before I miss an important event.

I would add:

  • Do not design a product asking people to screw into the battery case
