Hummers Confused at Bird Feeder

They must be first generation haha. I guess I’ll need to put a feeder back up again. I took it down before because ants had found it.

Haha, don’t think that would fit in his little beak!

True, but have you ever seen one with its mouth open?

Did you find a nest in your yard?

Not in this yard, but when my late husband & I lived next to Santa Cruz, Calfi they made a nest under the eves. We had a large picture window on that wall. I kept my pro camera on a tripod when home and used to shoot them from behind a coat rack. I used to sell local post cards and photo greeting cards in the village (Capitola) and the hummers on the flowers did well.
When I found the nest I couldn’t see into it, so we rigged up a folding compact mirror onto a long stick and got some shots of the baby that way haha.

That’s such a great picture!

Thank you. Although that one wasn’t captured with a Wyze cam.

Henry Ford would not approve of that arrangement. Get a Model T in any color as long as you select Black. You gave them too many choices. lol

Haha, I guess if they were used to feeding out of hummingbird feeders that looked like those, but I don’t see how any of them resemble flowers. Ohh, they do eat bugs, and I did see bugs in the bag of seeds, so maybe that’s what they were looking at. hmm

Speaking of eating bugs, I was watching this hummer today at my feeder. At first, she just sat on the feeder looking around. Then as you can see in the video, she started darting around. When I looked closer, I could see she was chasing bugs that were gathered arou d the feeder. You can’t see them in the video.

Cool. Yeah, sometimes they would sit on the telephone wire in my folks’ backyard and fly out a little ways to catch bugs. Sometimes they’d sit there in the rain too.

Get feeders with a water area on top to stop ants.

I got one last week and have to set it up now. I’ve never seen one attached to the feeder.

You can put an Ant Moat (see below) to prevent ants.

How do you manage to get all of those birds onto your feeders?

I got the copper one off ebay the other day and put it up.

My hummingbirds luv to nest in my cactus garden. I had four this last season. We had a good wind a few weeks ago and found two others blown onto the ground.

I would love to find a hummingbird nest in my yard. I would place a couple of cameras around it. That would be so cool. I am pretty sure the hummers that were at my feeder are nesting across the street. I watch them head over there when the leave.
