Have Wyze Doorbell Use Existing Chime

I went to purchase this but it appears that it does not come with a remote chime. Since my office is away from my indoor chime, I need a remote chime in my office. Will the V2 work with the Wyze remote chime? If so, How do I order it? I do not see it listed on the website.

About time!!! Of course I already have a Ring now.

It doesn’t work with the existing portable chimes from Wyze VDB’s. You can use an Alexa speaker as a remote chime though. They go on sale pretty cheap very regularly.

It’s nice that it can use the existing house chime. But the remote chimes where nice to have/use, so you could put them in your basement or patio, where/when you can’t hear the house chime. Does anyone know if there are plans to utilize the v1 chimes. Seems like this would have been done to encourage the v1 people to upgrade to v2

I guess it depends on your chime that you have in the house. My existing chime is super loud - I can hear it anywhere in my house and I have two floors. I really don’t even have a free outlet that would have been convenient to plug in a chime. I wish they had come out with this a year ago - I got tired of waiting and bought a Ring. I had bought the V1 and once I realized I had to have a separate chime I gave it away.

How you you get the VDBv2 to chime through Echo speakers?

2 options. OPTION 1:

  • In Alexa, select the Devices tab
  • Then cameras at the top
  • Then the VDBv2 name
  • Then the Settings gear icon on the top right
  • Then toggle on “Doorbell Press Notification”
  • Set a Doorbell sound
  • Choose which devices you want it to announce on in the “Announcement Devices”

Another option = Setup a routine

  • In Alexa, go to the More tab
  • Select Routines
  • Select the plus sign at the top right
  • Select Add an event under “when”
  • Select Smart Home
  • Select VDBv2 name
  • Select Doorbell
  • Save
  • Then Add an action
  • (Choose whatever action you want…either SOUNDS, or “Alexa Says” or “Announcement” - and choose what speakers it does that on) This way you can choose more than a dinging sound. You can have it announce words instead of ring.

You can do the same for when it just sees a person but they don’t press the doorbell. Then it will STILL chime for you even if they don’t press it.

I hope that helps :+1:

For whatever reason the doorbell v2 can’t trigger my existing door chime. It’s wired correctly and getting 20V power but upon pressing the doorbell, nothing happens in the chime box.

I’ve troubleshooted with support, my option is to return the doorbell. Instead I’m likely going to see if I can purchase a digital wired chime which might be more sensitive and require less power in case that helps the wyze unit trigger the chime.

Worth keeping in mind for those considering this purchase. An existing and working chime system doesn’t guarantee the v2 doorbell can trigger the chime.

This was fixed by upgrading my doorbell transformer to a 24v 40va unit. Chime works fine now.

I just installed my new v2 and had the same problem. I have a 16V 10 Watt transformer which Wyze lists as the minimum required and therefore should work.
But wait!.. I went into my android Wyze app, chose my doorbell, then:

  1. Hit the setting icon wheel in upper right
  2. Scrolled down to Chime and chose it
  3. Hit Doorbell Chime Type and discovered it was set to NONE
  4. Set it to Mechanical and BOOM! My mechanical chime now rings without having to change out to a larger transformer as many have suggested.

Hope this saves a lot of hassles out there!!
WYZE, Why is this not in the on-screen cellphone setup app?

I have the same problem. Everything is wired correctly, Wyze Video Doorbell v2 works, but inside Hampton Bay digital chime won’t sound. That chime requires a diode across pushbutton terminals to power it; when I install THAT, the Wyze Video Doorbell v2 won’t work. I’ll be returning the v2.

I had gone back and forth rewiring and triple checking,
I checked your post found setting and it was as easy as that finally worked. I was getting ready to pack it up and send it back

Use the setting on the door cam I had same issue, was ready to start throwing things. nothing mentioned in installation, choose the door bell on app then setting then select chime then mechanical and sure [Mod Edit] worked

Open the app and select the door cam
Go to chime and select mechanical it will work after that

I called tech support for assistance. After a frustrating 25 minutes going beteeen the wiring diagram in the app and the alternate wiring shown online and several times being put on hold, they told me the chime adapter was bad and needed to be replaced. support is sending a replacement.

I also read in the forum that the transformer MUST BE 24 V. The 16 Volt does not have enough power to support the chime adaptrer. I’ll be picking up a 24 V transformer after Christmas to see if it resolves the issue.

I have also had issues with the chime not working with the doorbell. Even with it set to mechanical.

For kicks and Giggles i swapped the red and white wire around. Put Red to Front and White to Trans, then boom it worked… Residential wiring will never be as it should be haha.

Out of the 5 i bought only 1 has worked so far. No i must go and re-wire with the Red on Front and White on Trans to see if they work…
