This does seem weird from a user perspective, given the way Google Home seems to manage users: Since all members of a Household essentially have administrator privileges (i.e., everyone can add or remove devices, etc.), I think it’s reasonable to expect that everyone would see the same connected services in the “Works with Google” section of the Home app, but that hasn’t ever been my experience. Whoever initially set up the integration seems to “own” it. I ran into that issue when I needed to disconnect another third-party integration that’s no longer available, and I had to do that by borrowing another Household member’s phone because that’s the user account that connected the third-party integration in the first place.
It seems inconsistent, and it’s somewhat frustrating.
It’s also possible for more than one Household member to connect the same third-party integration. For instance, I’ve set up some of the Wyze devices in this home and shared them with another family member (via the Wyze app), and other Wyze devices here were set up under another user’s account (and also shared via the Wyze app). Both Wyze accounts are individually linked to Google Home, so when I navigate in the Google Home app to see “Linked services”, Wyze Home shows 27 devices on my phone and 18 devices on another user’s phone.
Having said that, aside from a few occasional glitches where the streams were reported as unavailable, I’ve had a fairly consistent (and positive) experience using voice commands and routines to stream video on a Google Home Hub (1st generation), a TV running Google TV as the OS, and a Chromecast HD from a Wyze Video Doorbell v2, Cam OG, and a couple of Cam Pan v3s.
Thank you Kleebrock. My problem everytime I use WYZE app to view camera AWAY FROM HOME (away from my network), it can’t connect to the cam. Once i reboot it, it connects and i can view them. I have to reboot everytime in the WYZE apps. However, if i am home, it connects them just fine everytime cause i am in the same network at home. When i remove Google Mesh Wifi PRO and connects to my comcast router without Google PRO, it works everytime when i am away. So when i add back Google PRO, problem starts happening constantly with connections problem. So is definitely Google Wifi PRO and Wyze intergration/connections problem.
Let me put my tinfoil hat on for a second and say that I’m starting to think Google is silently sabotaging Wyze, I have that same experience, can’t stream any of my cameras while using my cellphone data, want to guess my carrier? Google fi! It’s not a cellphone issue, I have a dual sim phone with an AT&T line, when I switch to AT&T or connect to any WiFi the streaming works perfectly fine. And you might say, google fi is just T-Mobile, well, I tried a T-Mobile line for 2 weeks, the streaming worked fine, so it’s definitely something within Google’s filters or DNS that’s blocking Wyze, I wonder if something similar is happening with Google’s routers and Google home.
You may be correct. I just noticed a new banner on my Wyze cam devices when viewed in Google Home. They apparently will ONLY be displayable in either a Nest Hub or Chromecast and NOT within the app. I am pretty much DONE with Google on this front. Even deleting the app.
This hasn’t worked for us in almost a year, all wyze cameras show as offline in Google Home ios app, viewable with Wyze app or voice request on Google Hub, also able to view on Hub when doorbell is pressed. We’ve removed all other users from Google Home, tried connecting Wyze with either user, unlinked and re-linked the hub and Wyze, rebooted (and incidentally upgraded our network equipment and changed providers).
I’m checking back in to see if anyone has had any luck beyond or slightly different from what’s already in the discussion here. (We went through and repeated the earlier efforts today, in case we had missed something or an update had improved things.)
Anyone else sort of ready to move away from anything Google or Wyze at this point (it would be really annoying since we have a lot set up, but I am really annoyed and there are plenty more options now!) The amount of time invested in this is just not worth it.
Totally dumping Google Home. It’s been a nightmare and when I saw that Google Home now displays the message that these cameras are not reachable in the app, that was the last straw. They have made a dumpster fire out of Nest and I just decided it was not worth it. The Wyze app does everything I needed to get rid of Home.
I am totally in agreement with you Jeseaca. Mine hasn’t worked either. Google Home just upgraded to version 3.73.406133 last week in many years and i was hoping it fixed but it DID NOT. I have tried everything and nothing seems to work. However i found an annoying trick that works all the time but annoying. I have set up a shortcut within Wyze to reboot all the Wyze cameras and then you can view everyone one of them. But after a few min, they are back to where you can’t connect again. Then you have to reboot them again…Google and Wyze are not working together to resolve this really minor and annoying bug.
This thread has gotten pretty long so I am not sure if it’s been mentioned yet but I did want to note that last year Wyze acknowledged this problem exists but said that the issue is on Google’s side of the integration; Also that Google is aware of the issue and that Google will fix it someday.
But does the Wyze app allow non-Wyze brand lights and things to be added to it? I don’t believe so right? That’s why Google Home was more user-friendly because you could add any type of light brand you want. At least I haven’t figured out a way to add different brands to Wyze app
It’s been a while since I’ve peeked at this topic, so I appreciate your input. What I’m noticing from a lot of the recent posts having problems viewing Wyze cameras in Google Home is that the users posting have listed iPhone/iPad as the Wyze app in their profiles, so I’m wondering how much of this is an iOS issue at this point, because I’m generally (though not 100% reliably all of the time) able to view live feeds from my Wyze cameras in Google Home (on Android devices).
Having said that, I’ve experienced several instances in recent months where Google has broken things. Usually that presents to me when a voice command that I’ve used hundreds of times before (talking to a Google Home Mini) either doesn’t work as expected or is met with a reply from Google Assistant that it doesn’t understand what I’m trying to do. It’s frustrating from my perspective as an end user, and I imagine it’s the source of many headaches for those who are actually trying to develop this cross-platform stuff and get it all talking/listening reliably.
I just tried for an update from Google through Facebook. Here is their email response to me (from early this morning),
and also my Google interface update.
They still recognize the Wyze iOS problem with iOS Google Home app as a Google problem.
Sidebar:
my other Wyze device work fine on iOS (iPhone & iPad) Google Home app including lights bulbs & plugs.
my Wyze cams shows as being connected to Google Home app but will not stream like my Nest cams.
All of my Wyze cams as well as my Nest cams do stream on my Google Chromecast 4K TV interface.
If Google is sabotaging they are doing it to their own Google Nest cams, etc. as well.
The functionality in the Google Home app leaves out a number of the great features only accessible on the Google Nest app and Google Nest web browser.
It is confusing how, Google, a multi-$Billion company can be so lacking in communication skills & technical capability for their existing customer base …
… I have seen the “Google is updating the app over the next few weeks” now for almost a year now.
We are still waiting for some of the basic Nest cam functionality that we had for 10+ years… … it appears they are just deleting it because they can …
Having said that, I see more new functionality, more frequently, from Wyze on a much wider range of products … (and yes Google has bugs as well). Wyze is much more user centric.
Just want to note the issue of not being able to stream Wyze cams in the Google Home app definitely exists in the Android app as well for many users, myself included.
I have a kit that was half-installed by the previous homeowner, so I finished the installation and linked it to Google Home. The Google Home app displays the cameras as available devices but doesn’t stream video from them. When I select one in the app, Google Home shows me the Device settings screen with this message at the top:
This video stream can’t be viewed here. If you have a smart display or Chromecast, you can ask the Assistant to stream it there.
Assistant does obey voice commands and stream them to my Google TV. I can also use the touch controls on the Home Hub to stream video there, as well as to a Chromecast.
I’ve never got them to work for any period of time. Sometimes they’ll work for a few days and then stop and it’ll take weeks to get them back. I gave up after a while.
Chiming in here because I am also unable to see the Wyze Pan Cam v3 on my Hub or iOS app. However I can see my Arlo Pro 2 perfectly fine on both, as well as my Nest Doorbell. Hope this gets fixed soon as I was hoping to use the Hub and this cam as a baby monitor later this year
Similar issue here. Cam v3 does not stream to Google Home Android app or Nest Hub Gen 2. Video Doorbell Pro and Pan Cam v2 both stream to Google Home properly. This is the only camera that doesn’t work with my Google Home. It streams properly to the Wyze app, of course. Firmware is up to date, 2FA is set up, account has been reconnected and unlinked + reconnected.
I contacted Google support and was routed to a camera specialist. Their ultimate answer was that this is a Wyze issue, so I should contact their support.
