Went to charge my front doorbell pro and the plug-in looks melted, warped… anyone have any idea what couldve caused this while not being on a charger? Its not charging anymore.
Do you mean the port in the Doorbell unit, or the adapter and cord that you are going to plug into it?
It’s possible there is an electrical short that caused excessive heat.
Power surge?
Faulty batteries sometimes overheat and cause damage to a charging port
Does it sit in direct sunlight or get directly rained and snowed on?
Corrosion can happen from moisture or environmental factors causing resistance and heat buildup
The port! The port itself looks like its melted and it definitely wasnt like that last time i charged it. Its about 2.5 years old now. Covered porch use. So not directly getting rained on/exposed.
Please post pics.
Does the doorbell feel hot, especially in that area? The port is connected to the charging circuit which is connected to the battery. A failing charging circuit or battery could be feeding heat back toward the port area (likely the charging board is right on the other side of the port behind the plastic).
If it is excessively hot (be careful when testing so you don’t burn yourself) probably a good idea to take it out of service and leave it outside. If the battery can’t be disconnected, let it finish running down and don’t charge it. If it is something like I said, the battery is probably discharging much more quickly than normal. Regardless, I would not charge it indoors at this point.
