Today, we are releasing 1.0.98 firmware versions for both Wyze Cam OG and Wyze Cam OG Telephoto, which includes the SightSafe security update.
SightSafe: enhances security by embedding user-authenticated signatures at the media source, adding an additional layer of security to event videos and live stream.
This will be a gradual rollout over the next few weeks.
If anyone experiences the same thing, please speak up. I don’t currently use OG cams, so I can’t verify [if it’s a widespread issue affecting everyone].
I recently bought three new Wyze 3x cameras from Amazon, but I’m facing a frustrating issue: none of them can update from version 1.0.63 to 1.0.98. I’ve tried various troubleshooting methods, including removing the micro SD card, rebooting my modem and router, disabling my ad blocker on Android, and resetting each camera. Despite these efforts, I can’t determine if the latest batch is defective or if the jump from 1.0.63 to 1.0.98 is too significant.
I am having this problem too. I just bought an OG telephoto after install I was prompted for an update which failed. I tried all the troubleshooting suggestions with no luck. I contacted wyze support and they determined it must me a hardware issue and sent me a replacement. I got the replacement, and it will not update either. Something is either wrong with the update, or all the telephoto cameras. I have three regular OG cams and they all updated without issue. Wyze needs to figure it out.
Interesting. I purchased two Wyze 3X from Wyze directly today. They should arrive today. I will compare them with the three I bought from Amazon. If the ones from Wyze arrive with 1.0.63 and don’t upgrade to 1.0.98 then Wyze has a bad batch of these.
Sometimes Wyze refers to Cam OG Telephoto as “Cam OG Telephoto 3x”. Other references can also be found in that section of the Help Center. I believe some places within the app also refer to regular Cam OG as “Cam OG Standard”, and I’ve seen people use “OG-S” and “OG-T” as shorthand, as well.
If your Wyze OG Telephoto comes with version 1.0.63. It’s DOA. It won’t upgrade to 1.0.98. 1.0.63 is not even in the history of firmwares. I’m using Wyze ver 3.5.5 (669)
Wyzes reply:
Thank you for bringing the firmware update issue to our attention. Since you are experiencing “Firmware Update Failed” on your three Wyze Cam OG Telephotos, and you have tried all recommended troubleshooting stes, we can go ahead and check your Warranty option.
You may be eligible for a Warranty Replacement or Wyze Gift Card for the amount of your product.
Firmware History. Notice that 1.0.63 is not listed.
1.0.67 (August 14, 2023)
Added support for Motion Warning under Camera Settings > Detection Settings > Motion Warning. Note: This requires Cam Plus for Person Detection
Added support for Smart Detection Events to only detect and record motion triggered by people, pets, vehicles, or packages. Note: This requires Cam Plus for object detection/span
1.0.59 (February 13, 2023)
Improved image quality
Fixed the blue color tint in for outdoor low light conditions
Fixed a bug that prevented Event Videos from being downloaded if the Record Sound setting was turned off
I am also having an OG problem which started May 23, which I suspect is due to the Firmware update. Most of my OG Live Events are being cut short at 3 seconds
Strange as it seems, it appears my Events are only cut short to 3 seconds when I am logged into Wyze. If I log out of Wyze my events will be normal length.
Anyone else notice their OG Events are now 3 seconds after updating to version 1.0.98?
@WyzeJasonJ it would appear there are many users who have gotten cams from Amazon (and replacements from Wyze, not sure if they were sent via Amazon or not) that had the standard OG 1.0.63 firmware on them, which will not upgrade to anything after that. Has been reported in another thread also. I’m guessing it is failing since 1.0.63 is not a valid OG-T firmware.
Wyze may need to release a manual upgrade file for 1.0.98 that can be loaded via SD card, or add something to the 1.0.98 that detects that it is in fact the correct cam and lets it upgrade from the incorrect firmware.
All of my Wyze OG Telephoto upgraded fine that I purchased before May. Three purchases from Amazon on May 21 and two from Wyze on June 1st ALL arrived installed with Firmware 1.0.63 (which is not listed in their listed firmwares). Thus, it can’t upgrade from 1.0.63 to 1.0.98.
