Event video not loading even though video stream works

Hoping someone can sort this - it’s beyond me!

Hi all - I have 10 V3s all of which have been working with no problems ( mostly) for over 5 years but one of them has suddenly started being awkward in there last few days.

When a motion event happens I get the event showing in the app tapping the event shows “ loading event” with horizontal dots as usual. But then it says “connection failed “ and then an unhelpful message saying “check your connection”.

I know the connection is working because the live video stream plays ok - and the event can be played from the SD card.

I have restarted the camera several times but it makes no difference.

The other 9 cams are working as they should do including the one that is close to the awkward one.

Any ideas would be very welcome.

Thanks,

Pete

How did you restart the camera from the app or did you pull the plug and plug back in?

Have you tried reset services?

How is good the wifi signal at the cam?

I have seen the same behaviour few times on my V4 that is the furthest one from the router. It is caused by unreliable connection to Wyze servers, hence reliable live and SD card streaming.

Please check and see if this is still happening, if it is, power cycle your camera, and it should fix it.

+1 for trying reset services. I recently had a weird issue where some of my cameras suddenly switched to thumbnails only. I tapped reset services and did immediately fixed the issue (other than requiring me to go uncheck motion notifications again).

Hi + thanks for replying Antonius.

The WiFi signal is very good, the camera is one of the closest to the router.

I restarted it from the app because pulling the power cable would be difficult without getting the ladder out.

I’ll reset the services first and if that doesn’t work then I will have to go out in the rain.

Thanks

Thanks Habib I thought the same but I had no idea why it would only affect one camera. Nothing has changed with any of the the cameras.

Thanks Carverofchoice - I’ll reset the services but will have to wait for an event to happen as it is 1 am here in the UK and it is raining.

Thanks WyzeJasonJ

I will wait to see if the reset services has worked and if not then I will have to go up the ladder at the weekend.

Hello again everyone.

I reset the services last night but the affected camera still showed the live stream but it completely stopped giving notifications.

So I got out of bed early this morning and went up the ladder ( I’m not sure what my neighbours thought) !!

Anyway, unplugging the power lead and reconnecting it worked and the camera is now working normally.

Thank you all for your help.

If you don’t have any other way to power cycle the cam, you may want to consider installing a smart plug on it. Of course you have the option of using the circuit breaker too, but depending what else is on that circuit, may not be desirable.

Thanks Dave27

I considered that but the electrician wired it into the same circuit as the alarm system and using the circuit breaker would trigger it.

I think it will be a job for the future, although this is the first time this camera has gone wrong.

No battery backup on the alarm system?

No - something else to get the electrician to do

Think of the camera as a computer. Once in a while computers get bogged down and need a reboot.

Happy to hear you got your camera to work again. I have all my plug in cameras connected to smart plugs so I can turn the power off and on. I use KASA Smart Wi-Fi mini plugs. The smart plugs outdoors have weather proof coverings but KASA has about four different models of outdoor rated plugs.

I am not a fan of ladders.

Welcome to the club

I only use them when there is no other way to do something.
