DuoCam Doorbell - Think I just wasted $90 on something that does not work

I spend winters in Brazil so I bought this so I could know if someone delivered a package while I was gone. I also needed 3 months of battery life.
First, camera has missed 2 deliveries… Package on porch - no events. I had another delivery today and it worked great. I followed the exact path to pick up the package. No events.
The three misses all had different sensitivity (2, 3, 4).
Second issue is battery life. 6 days and I am at 77%. I bought a memory card to record only events. However I felt the battery drain was too high so I subscribed to Cam plus to reduce battery drain.
Theoretically, the camera should last because once I am away there might only be 1 or 2 events per week. If I can’t trust the camera to detect an event then I have to go to the live feed every day to look which will drain the battery more.
One thought would be to get rid of cam plus and just get the picture, not sure if the camera issue is with the AI portion. Is there a way to know if there was an event that was discarded by the server. Just thinking all this hype over cameras and what they can do is just that hype. I think the only guaranteed use is either continuous recording or live stream. I hope the continious concept works because I just bough 10 cameras to install in the house in Brazil.

Did you replace an existing doorbell with house built-in chime with a transformer? 6 months battery is a pipe dream regardless of Wyze marketing. Not in the real world. Wiring with a transformer, w/wo chime is the better alternative. My 2 duos are connected to a transformer and the batteries stay at 100%. Notifications are on point on package detection, even the delivery person walking up with a package in hand or under arm.

I thought I might have to hard wire it but where my existing doorbell is, is too close to the handle and would require modifications. Wanted to make sure this thing worked and still trying to figure out why it does not detect 100%.
Also to get it to work from the existing doorbell wire, I understand the transformer has to be rewired to provide the hot and neutral to the Wyze. Typically the transformer neutral is tied to the house chime and the doorbell completes the hot side to the chime.
Using existing wiring would provide a 24vac floating connection without a neutral. Not sure that works.

Not rewiring of the transformer so much as wiring in a chime controller in the chime box. A doorbell v2 connector that works as a solution for the duo with existing chime. Now available separately in the Wyze Shop for $13.99. Resolves the floating 24vac w/o neutral and maintains existing chime with power to the duo to provide trickle charge to the battery.

However, it doesn’t seem like you can install the duo at your existing db location.

The absolute worst nightmare came true: a cheap, junky device paired with garbage software! I wasted TWO WHOLE DAYS troubleshooting why the Duo Cam Doorbell refuses to record video on ANY of my SD cards—the very same cards that work perfectly fine on my Cam Pan, Cam v3, and Cam OG. Restarting? Useless. Formatting? Pointless. Resetting? A total waste of time. Nothing worked!

The duo is only a month old. You are well within 1 year warranty and maybe even 30 day return window. Definitely contact Wyze Support and create a ticket for a return and/or replacement.

I successfully removed and reformatted the sdcards from my 2 v2’s and transferred into my 2 duos. Not sure you will be satisfied under any condition with the duo based on your comments.

I could not find the listing for the chime controller for 13.99. Since it is 3 wires I am assuming two go to the camera and the last wire goes to the input side of the existing button. Again assuming they are magically creating a neutral for the camera to work.
I can mount this but it requires carpentry work to move the power wires higher. The chime controller itself… is there room to mount this inside the base of the doorbell??
Still my current problem is that the doorbell misses detections. USPS delivered a package and I got no notification… So don’t want to deal with the power problem if I can’t rely on it to detect all deliveries…

In the Wyze app on your phone:

Shop > Shop All - then scroll down 24 rows.

That’s the results on my Android phone. It is not available on the website.

The controller is mounted inside the house chime box if you have a home chime. Typically mechanical chime but can be digital.

Wiring configuration is to trans and front db in the chime box. 2 controllers if you have front and rear doorbells. You are removing the wires at the doorbell button and attaching them to the duo.

OK… I see it… Thanks…
Hopefully the detection issue can be resolved…

I was able to fit 2 controllers inside my mechanical chime box with no room to spare.

As a Cam+ unlimited subscriber, my duos would have been returned within the first week or 2 if I was experiencing detection issues and I would have reinstalled my dbv2’s. I can share some settings should you decide to stay with the duo.

I looked at the information on the device on the phone app. A big disconnect, says it is 100-240 volts, plays 19 tunes and 8 volume levels… Sounds like they are describing a chime and not the chime controller. The model number is actually for a chime so how do I know I will get the right item.
You are using this with the Duo cam doorbell… right???

Yes, the controller was included with the vdb.v2. It became a solution for the duo to get the home mechanical chime to work with the duo and keep the duo’s battery charged since it has to be in the duo for it to function. Interestingly, the controller appears to have disappeared from the Shop i
n the Wyze app. Maybe because of the discrepancy in the description or because it became a much in demand item for the buyers of the doorbell duo. I suspect it will be back in stock soon based on demand from new duo owners.

Yes. Agent reviewed the log without clue, in process getting a replacement.

Just found out if you search for chime controller in the Shop on the app or scroll over and click on Accessories in the top bar, it appears and can be purchased. I wouldn’t be concerned about the misleading specs. The controller is powered thru the db transformer. Same item I am using in my chime box.

It’s totally wrong, and you’re right: The specs and even the product model number listed in the description are for the Video Doorbell (v1) Chime. I’ve mentioned this to Wyze and asked why the Chime Controller isn’t available for sale in the shop on their Web site (it’s available only via the app), but I still haven’t received a response. I’ll follow up on that.

At least the photo and the item’s name are correct, and other users have reported successfully ordering and receiving the Chime Controller this way, but I certainly don’t blame you for being skeptical.

It gets wired into your chime box with two of the wires connecting to separate terminals on your chime and one of the wires connecting to the wire from your doorbell button’s location. See the diagrams in the Chime Controller Installation Guide (for Video Doorbell v2).

Thanks for all the info… I ordered the controller on Saturday and received it yesterday (Monday) It is the correct item. Once you see a wiring diagram it all makes sense.

You’re welcome. The wiring should be pretty straightforward, and hopefully the installation isn’t too painful for you and allows you to maintain the battery charge, especially since the battery is necessary for the doorbell’s operation even when it’s wired.

I saw that a new β firmware dropped for Duo Cam Doorbell yesterday, so hopefully this one or a future fix will remedy some of the battery issues users have been reporting since launch.

Ditto on @Crease. Glad you had a positive experience with the Forum community.

I saw that you asked about testing the β firmware in that topic, and now I see that a production update has been released, FYI:
