I have the pleasure of using the new Duo doorbell camera side by side with the old Nest doorbell. I must say that the lower package camera is a really neat feature. The many custom doorbell chimes are a nice touch especially the holiday tones (thank you for including Kwanza). The internal SD card is nice keeping it safe from the elements. I have updated to the latest firmware
AUDIO/VIDEO:
The video & audio quality falls short even in comparison to the Cam v4 but for this purpose I’ll compare with my old Nest 1080. When zooming in with the Nest the quality is obviously pixelated but much better than the Wyse zoom in quality. 2.5K video is at the correct resolution but when zoomed in there’s really no perks to this camera. When trying to listen to a person talking or any other noises (gun shots etc) you cannot make out what you’re actually hearing. When audio is recorded you can hear audible artifacts like.
BATTERY:
The quoted 6 month battery which is not accurate it only lasts less than a week if I’m lucky. Understand the more activities detected and streaming the quicker it drains.
CHIMES:
The chimes kept going off for whatever reason this caused so much confusion. If a package sat at the door the doorbell would ring over and over. The doorbell press should be a different notification than the package notification. I ended up turning off the chime and removing the cameras as chimes too. Initially my Google speakers picked up the doorbell notifications but that stopped as well.
I’m debating on replacing the wired Nest doorbell camera on wired to mitigate having to charge but at this point I’m not sold.
Why does a new doorbell look abused on the top or are those light reflections?
Have you installed the 2 firmware updates for the duo? Also, since it’s release, there have been many Forum conversations to help with many of the duo issues. Have you been following and adjusted accordingly? My front and rear doorbells are duos and things were on thin ice in the 1st week or 2 for keeping or returning. Wyze still needs improvement to it’s AI detection feature but duos are definitely keepers for my use.
Check out the duo topics in the Forum, and you should find some positive info.
Those are indeed reflections although that’d be hilarious to complain after thrashing a brand new device. Not unheard of but I don’t have the time of money for that.
Yes I did look before posting this and nothing related to my feedback above. I updated twice since deployment and the chimes still today ring when someone is by the door but didn’t ring the doorbell. As for everything else same issue. I’ll update that info above about updating.
Ringing at the doorbell and not the house chime is a connection, power, transformer or app setting issue or all of the above.
Do you have a mechanical or digital house chime?
Are you using the wifi chime included with the duo?
What did you set type of chime for duo in the app?
Do you know ##V/##VAC rating of db transformer?
Is it wired at the electrical panel or to junction box?
Do you have front and rear doorbells or just front?
Did you wire duo with existing db button wires?
Are you willing to upgrade equipment if needed?
Dou is on battery set through Built-in chimes via Google Home I believe for notifications. I’m the Dou settings > Notifications I’ve removed the notification from package that seems to do the trick but I’d like for Wyze to make a specific ringtone for each category?! IE packages detected is a “box dropping noise” vs “Someone is at your door” same as a doorbell push.
I’ve since move the chime to the garage and removed the chime from the doorbell. I only use it in the garage with my garage camera now.
My bad for jumping over your original post. There are some things I should have addressed. Android or Apple IOS mobile devices?
Works with Google is very misleading. This has been a very long complaint. Google and Wyze do not play well together.
From my experience the only features that might work are the live streaming (frequently a hit and miss) and person at doorbell announcement.
Wyze app is the primary source with some features supported available thru Amazon Alexa. Wyze uses AWS an Amazon service to run and support its servers. Google and Amazon are totally separate platforms. Big communications gap between Wyze and Google Home compared to Wyze and Amazon Alexa.
Operating duo on battery only is an exercise in futility. The duo needs power to the battery to maintain the charge and operate for any prolonged period of time. The house chime transformer provides that power.
Use of the wifi chime negates the other chime options without the house connections. The mechanical chime setting is useless. That is used when you have connected your existing doorbell button wires to the duo to ring your house built-in chime.
You may be able to create some Wyze automations/rules, but some of what you expressed, person/package detection, would require Wyze Cam Plus subscription service. Sounds like you may have it but it’s not clear.
A specific ringtone for each category? Good luck with that one on the wish list.
You may need to reconsider how you want to setup and operate your duo. There are certain dependencies needed to maximize duo’s camera and AI features, Google Home is not on the list yet.
So back to my previous reply, if you would like to get your duo up and operating at least with minimum satisfaction, please send feedback to the 8 questions posted. You could also decide the duo is not you and request to return it if you still under 30 days from purchase date.
Thanks for the insight. I’m using Android with Google only. I do have the option for Alexa through Sonos but I’ve opted to use Google primarily. I have the Wyze plus unlimited subscription. I have the camera setup that is not the issue.
Most of my concerns is about the audio visual quality and how the camera functions. What you’re alluding to is that the doorbell needs to be wired in order to have better quality video and audio recording?
As I sit here someone walks past the doorbell and the alert goes off on my Google speakers someone is at the door yet I have all the doorbell notifications turned off. I suppose you’re right I’ll just returned it.
In the GH app when you click on the doorbell and then the gear icon (settings), is it no or yes under voice notifications? That’s the only voice service you get for Wyze in GH and only for doorbells. It almost took an act of congress to get that activated. I have both GH and Alexa and have used the GH doorbell voice notifications. You have to tap on the yes or no to turn it on or off.
What I am saying is if you want to keep the battery charged so that the doorbell works optimumly, and you’re not pulling the battery to charge it every week, you need to hardwire it. The best quality video will be from setting the doorbell to 2.5k. Tap on the live stream window and a box appears in the upper right. It has 3 choices when you tap it [360] [HD] [2k]. Audio quality is governed by the doorbell speaker. There is bluetooth in the duo but only for setup assistance.
It doesn’t appear the duo is going to be a satisfactory experience for you. Feel free to post any updates or decisions to keep or return.
