Connectivity issue using Satellite Internet

My cameras (3 x Cam Pan and 2 x Cam v3) have worked great for a long time. In about March 2023 they stopped being able to be controlled by the app on my android. I could not turn them on and off. they had a cloud with a line showing they were off line. They still sent recordings in. I have tried factory reset, reset the app, deleting and re-adding. nothing works. They also seemed to cycle and restart, spin around, used up a lot of GB on service.
I took all 5 to another house where there is regular highspeed internet, set them all up and everything works as expected. I know the cameras and app are ok when working on fast internet.
So the question is - was there an update in the last year which would cause problems if you are not on a fast connection or if there is latency in your connection?

Connectivity issue using Satellite Internet

Fellow customer @bryonhu may have some insight on this. I tagged him to see if he’s available and interested.

What satellite provider is being used?

What are your upload speeds?

What is your latency?

Guess they figured it out

Yup.

Sorry for the delay. it has been a few weeks to where my camera are and I could get the ##'s.
HughesNet is the provider
using SpeedTest

  • ping 788
  • Upload 3.13
  • Download - 8.99
  • jitter 521

I plugged in a cam pan and a v3, My app on phone shows both firmware up to date. They will connect but then when I turn them off via the app, they turn on again in a few seconds.

So I plugged in a cam pan again, set it up and it recorded me walking through the room.
I also saw the event on the website and could see a livestream from the website.
after a few minutes it spun around twice and is now pointing 180 degrees from where it was originally pointed.
All 5 of my cameras worked GREAT until an update a few months ago.

Your internet speed and ping values should work.

Maybe the provider “Hughes Net” is blocking?
I’m surprised that Hughes Net did that well in speed testing🤔

Maybe if it seems like the firmware, try rolling back via SD card firmware upgrade procedure.

can you give guidance in that process?

Me too! One of my friends had hughes net in the past and I remember it being way worse than that, so I’m impressed it is as good as it is in that test. They have certainly made improvements over the years.

 bought a 64GB card today (missing the recommendation of 32gb fat32). I copied the file into the root, named it demo.bin and i cannot get it to work. Is it the 64gb card recognized or i am i failing on another step?

btw - I retested the connection from the Satellite and it failed to work correctly. I brought it back to another location - no change to phone or camera - AND it worked fine. It does seem like there is an issue with the firmware and back leveling will resolve the issue.
Thank you in advance…

I got a 32GB fat32 card. The file appears to be named correctly. I believe that i followed the directions of holding down the setup button and plugging it in and i never got the light to change to purple when plugging in. What do i need to do to get the flash to older version to install.

Sad to tell you but certain sd cards will not work with the firmware flashing part and may otherwise work fine. It doesn’t matter what you try with those specific sd cards as it won’t work period. You have to try other types until you get one that works. If you don’t have any then it might not be worth it as I don’t think anyone actually knows what (as far as I know even Wyze doesn’t since an sd card will otherwise work eg with recording, playback, etc).

I’m not convinced you need to flash a different firmware anyway. But, you can try since you’re convinced its at fault.

Edit - that was weird. It automatically removed the quote on me and made an edit. Here’s to number 2 lol.
