Cannot scan QR code - Cam Pan V3

So I have bought my first Wyze cam, and am stuck at the scanning QR code part. And yes, I have tried almost everything - read through all the tips, previous posts, faqs, everything. I’m on ios and here’s what I’ve tried:

  • Brightness up, brightness down.
  • Titled it each way to try and reduce glare, upside down, right way up, you name it.
  • In a dark room, in a bright room, in daylight, at night time.
  • Phone view is normal, have reduced font size and QR code is definitely fully onscreen
  • To be sure, have tried a second iphone (the wife’s) and an ipad, still no joy
  • Have screenshot the QR code and emailed it to myself, brought it up on PC to try and scan
  • Have printed out the QR code
  • Have reset the cam by holding down the setup button for 10+seconds
  • Tried it with a SD card in, and without
  • Have tried it with the phone/ipad flat and moving the camera, and vice versa with the camera flat and moving the iphone / ipad

I have an Orbi router, and I can’t select the 2.4ghz band be default (it doesn’t let you), but after some googling for people with similar issues I’ve turned the 5ghz band way down to 25% so that it picks up 2.4 band instead, so think that’s right.

At this point, I’m just about to return it for a refund as it just won’t get past the QR code. Surely there should be some manual way to set it up?
If I hear “ready to connect” one more time I’m close to throwing it out the window! I’ve probably spent a good 2-3 hours over 2 days trying to get it to scan.

I don’t think there’s any tips left to try, but in one last case of desperation I’m posting this. Any last minute suggestions? Thanks.

Wow @mswindells you did an amazing amount of troubleshooting! You even covered a lot of things that I believe I am the only who has ever suggested them. You’ve done your research. Welcome to the forums, BTW.

If it were happening to me with a brand new Pan V3, I would try the following:

I would also consider a “Firmware Flash” of the camera and force it to update to the newest firmware:

Make sure you are using an app version that is at least version 2.5

Are you using the original Plug and Cord that came with the Wyze Pan V3, or a different one?

And this may sound like a dumb question, but, did you remember to pull the little plastic sticky film off the lens first? I have had a few people that forgot that.

Does your WiFi use a password, and does it have any spaces in it? (I know some people have reported problems in the past if they used or started a password with a space or sometimes weird ascii characters or something)

Honestly, if it’s not working after that, I think you’d exhausted most stuff I could think of. I would personally just contact support and have them trade you for a new one. You could even just skip straight to that step. You’ve done awesome troubleshooting already.

One last thing you could try…or at least that I would personally try:

For testing purposes, temporarily setup your iPhone or iPad to broadcast a hotspot WiFi, then using your other device to setup the camera using that Hotspot network and see if the camera will connect to that instead of your home router. If it DOES connect to that, then we’ll have narrowed down the issue to be related to your Orbi router. That’s good knowledge and if we know that is the issue then we can give you some ideas of other settings you can try to fix on the Orbi to allow the cameras to connect better. But lets first try this test to see if we need to go that route. If the camera won’t connect to the hotspot either, then we will be more confident that the unit likely has some kind of defect and there is probably not much you can do anyway.

I’d be interested in hearing how that goes for you either way.

Thanks for the extra info, confirming the following:

  • App version is 2.50.7 (10)
  • Using the original Plug and Cord that came with the Wyze Pan V3 (albeit it comes with a US power adaptor, I’m in Australia so have plugged the cord into another USB power adaptor
  • Have pulled the little plastic sticky film off the lens.
  • WiFi has a password, but no spaces. Starts with a number.

I have also today flashed the firmware on the cam, and connected my phone to a hotspot. Neither have made a difference :frowning:

I think that’s it, will be returning it for a refund. Not sure I want to try another one given the frustrating experience this has been.

Understandable. I would be frustrated too.

I think this unit is likely defective considering all the stuff you tried.
