I buy a lot of Wyze Cam for my two homes. And when they fail (mmmm often enough that I have a story to tell) I just buy new ones because tech support is only interested in following a script of Tech 101 , but DEAD is dead, when a camera no longer works, it is dead. And because they do not serialize inventory, the only method of warranty if proof of purchase, and I have a LOT of receipts, and a lot of dead cameras.
WHICH BRINGS ME TO MY POINT: of all the versions I have the v4 seems to be the most problematic,
and rather than keep buying more to replace the bad ones maybe I should be sticking to v3 or v2 ?
MY QUESTION TO YOU ALL IS: do you find the v4 more of a problem than the others.
I really need these to work, and RELIABLE is probably one of my highest priorities.
Thank you all, I appreciate this forum and all the feedback.
I only have one v4, its been going 24x7 for about a year without issues.
What is failing on them? Given your high failure rate, you may need to consider that you could have a power issue or something else going on? But would be curious to know what is failing, are they totally dead, or just not connecting etc?
StevenA - interestingly my older cameras from earliest days (did they even have a V1 ?) all work really well, Although a few fried , melted bodies from being on all the time, those hit the trash can. I agree that my V2 and V3 are still on, but the V4 at one year an 1 day (meaning just out of warranty) nothing, and of course as I am an engineer, and a repair technician , have tested cables, power supplies and about everything else, the only thing I have not done is open them and start testing individual components (and I have the equipment, just consider it a waste of time). Good luck to you.
I only have one V4 and has been working with no issues since May 2024. First thing I did when I got it was to replace the stock power adapter with a 2.4AMP as it’s fed by 40ft USB cable.
I have not found this to be the case with 6 Cam v4s, but I also don’t know the nature of the failures you’re describing without more detail. For perspective, my oldest Wyze Cam is a Cam Pan v3, and I added a second one of those (which has been problematic) some time later. I also have some Cam OGs and a few other models (I try to keep my Forum profile updated with that information). Overall I’d say that the Cam v4s have probably caused me fewer problems than some others have.
That is an important data point for me, as I was curious if others were having problems. The two that failed (no power at all) are from the same manufactured batch. I was deciding whether to avoid them and stick with v3 or not. Thank you for telling me your success.
You’re welcome. It’s only one (user) data point—or six if you count individual Cams—so take it with a grain of salt in your choice of size.
I wonder if your use conditions are having an adverse effect on your Cams. Again, since you didn’t really detail the nature of the applications, failures, and use cases, it’s difficult to provide much more input. I should probably note that I have used at least of my Cam v4s outdoors temporarily during summer weather, but those and most of my other Wyze Cams (except for the Video Doorbells, Bulb Cam, and Solar Cam Pan) see indoor use with their included power adapters and cables.
I don’t have any hands-on experience with Cam v3, as my oldest Wyze Cam is a Cam Pan v3 (so I’ve also never experienced the “old” UI that a lot of long-time users seem to prefer). As such, I can’t make a direct comparison to those. I do think that Cam v4 is a pretty solid value, especially when it’s on sale and for someone who’s already enmeshed within the Wyze ecosystem.
I have seven v4s and five old V3s in use right now. I’ve had most of the V4 since they first came out. No failures yet. Three are used inside and four are used outside. I’m a happy Wyze user.
