Cam models that support "Motion Warning" need a warning timeout/pause feature

Love the Motion Warning on the Floodlight Pro. Definitely a step in the right direction.
Except it’s nearly unusable.

Just locking/unlocking my door, It gives me the “You are being Recorded” message 3-4 times.

The camera AI also falsely identifies flying bugs as people or vehicles and gives that warning every few minutes all night long.

I like the warning message, but there needs to be a way to tell it “pause the the message for 10 minutes” or something like that instead of going off every few seconds.

[Mod Edit]: Title and tags modified to be more inclusive and to enhance search clarity.

[Mod Note]: This wishlist request now covers Wyze cam models that support “Motion Warning”. Some models are (not limited to) Floodlight Pro, Floodlight v2, Bulb Cam, Cam v4, Cam OG, Cam OG Telephoto, etc. Please note that this timeout/pause request is related to the cam’s audible motion warning announcement to the person in view of cam, not the app’s notification to the user.

Please make sure you vote for your Wish as the system does not add one for you.

@Lance1, I gave it a vote.

Just curious, when this happens :point_up_2:, do you also have the floodlight set to activate only on those Smart AI events? And does the floodlight also activate?

When this happens, are you getting Person or Vehicle event uploads with AI tags to the Events page?

I’m asking because I am experiencing a similar issue although it is based an the same Cam Onboard AI object recognition trigger.

Thanks!

I totally agree with this needing a more flexible cooldown setting If I have people visiting, I don’t want it repeating that constantly while we’re standing around talking.

I would also love to have a rule action for turning it on and off so I could schedule it to only turn on when I arm my HMS system and then turn off when it is disarmed, or just schedule it to only do it from sunset to sunrise or something like that.

@SlabSlayer Yes. I have ambient set, but floodlight goes to full brightness when this happens and it gets recorded as an event. Usually flagged as a “person”. I have sent the events to wyze but not sure how much they actually look at that.

The Product Manager for the FLPro just announced on Facebook that this Wishlist is planned to be added:

For the next Steps, we are also planning to add more options to optimize the experience of Motion Warning, like adding support to select intervals of voice prompt in future updates. Stay tuned,

Thought some of you following this wishlist request would be pleased at hearing the update.

Snooze Motion Warning Tones

I have 4 Floodlight v2 cameras and am trying to find out of there is a way to snooze the ‘Motion Warning Tones” that are emitted when a person is detected. We have landscapers who come look after our home while we are away and they are usually onsite for several hours at a time. I’d like to be able to create an automation that will allow me to “snooze” the alerts for an hour or two while they work (listening to the tones can get annoying after a short while). They do not keep a regular schedule, so I am not able to create an automation that turns off the alerts on a specific schedule.

Thanks,

Welcome to the Forum, @BSNorris!

If you have a spare Wyze Plug, then something like this should be trivial with a Shortcut Automation:

  • DO
    • Cam Floodlight v2
      • Turn off Motion Warning
      • Turn on Plug

Then you add a Device & Service Trigger Automation for the timer and reset:

  • IF
    • Wyze Plug
      • Has been on for 01:00:00
  • DO
    • Cam Floodlight v2
      • Turn on Motion Warning
    • Wyze Plug
      • Turn off

I don’t immediately see a way to do this without some kind of intermediary work-around that can provide a “has been on for” or “has been off for” condition for a second Automation (the trigger), but what you’re asking about seems like it could be a request for this Wishlist topic:

I can snooze my V3 and V4 cameras for an hour any time I get a notification by long pressing on the notification. Here is a screen shot:

That’s snoozing notifications. I believe @BSNorris is asking about something like in Cam v4’s  Settings ➜ Detection Settings ➜ Motion Warning, which you can enable if you want the camera’s speaker to warn people that they’re being recorded when the camera is triggered by motion. Motion Warning can be enabled/disabled for some devices via Automation but only as an “on” or “off” state, not a “snooze”-type control (i.e., “off for 2 hours”)…at least not according to what I see, and I think that’s sort of the ask here.

My bad, I don’t use motion warning as I don’t want to disturb my neighbours

I dig. I don’t use it, either, but I understand why it’s there and that some people really like that feature.

I wonder if snoozing notifications will also snooze alerts

No, and I can’t imagine imagine why it would, because they’re two separate features controlled in two separate sections within Settings doing two completely different things.

Oh, and I tested it with a Cam v4 and Cam OG. Snoozing notifications on the phone has zero apparent effect on Motion Warning with those Cams, so I wouldn’t expect the experience with Cam Floodlight v2 to be any different. I really think the solution to the initial suggestion is doable but involves another device for the work-around. Even doing it that way, it should still be possible to “snooze” the audio warnings for all four cameras as desired and control the experience with just two Automations, as noted.

I couldn’t find that suggestion in the Wishlist, but I did see this for video doorbell canned responses:

I believe I’ve seen what you’re suggesting actually proposed more seriously () by other users, but I’m not finding it in the Wishlist at the moment. What I did find—and what might actually interest @BSNorris—is this request:

While that topic is specifically tagged for Cam Floodlight Pro, it seems like a useful feature for other Cam Floodlight models or Cams specifically intended for outdoor use (like Bulb Cam). I don’t have any of the floodlights, but I do use Bulb Cam, so I might go ahead and bump that one myself.

I don’t own any of the Cam Floodlight products, but I found this Wishlist request because a Cam Floodlight v2 user recently asked about a “snooze” feature for Motion Warning. Now I’m thinking this request should be extended to all Cams that are explicitly designed primarily for outdoor use: all Cam Floodlight models plus Bulb Cam. I don’t actively use Motion Warning, but given some of the use cases I’ve read I can see how a “snooze”-type feature (or variable “timeout” or whatever you choose to call it) could be useful for customers who routinely do use it, so I’m giving it a vote.

2025-10-15T17:31:59Z Edit: That link in the preceding paragraph is going to break in about a week (as of this writing) because of the topic merge, so for historical purposes I’ll note that it was referring to Cam models that support "Motion Warning" need a warning timeout/pause feature - #7 by BSNorris, which was the original post in the pre-merge topic. (Thanks, Mr. Moderator!)

This can be achieved with the two way built in control on all cams, I use it extensively whenever someone rings the bell and are trying the sell something. I just tell them that I am not interested and that they are trespassing.

I believe you’re talking about interactive 2-way audio where you speak through the camera via the app. The Wishlist item you quoted in the block is about audio responses built into a device/plugin and has already been implemented to some degree in existing Wyze video doorbells, as far as I know. I see it in Video Doorbell v2, but there are only three preset responses, and that Wishlist topic is asking for more/custom options.

This topic has really gotten away from the original goal. I’m still interested in an update from @BSNorris.
