What is the trick to attach the arm?
Based on the picture, the attachment mechanism is a Swivel Ball Joint that is secured by a Compression Nut (the silver/red ring). This joint holds the light arm and also makes the electrical connection.
What i would try:
The “trick” isn’t just pushing it in—it’s pushing it in and then tightening the nut.
Ensure the two thin wires (red and black) coming from the light arm are intact and haven’t pulled out or broken. The connection is made internally when the joint is seated. (For me personally, I would cut off the end of another cord and plug it in to an AC outlet, wire that to the floodlight and make sure it turns on as expected, if not then maybe try to return it or figure out how to fix the wiring).
Align the smooth ball end of the light arm with the socket opening on the main floodlight base.
Gently but firmly push the ball joint all the way into the socket until it is fully seated. You should feel the connection snap into place.
Screw the silver/red ring (the compression nut) clockwise onto the threads of the base. Tighten this just enough so that the light arm is secure and won’t droop, but not so tight that you can’t manually adjust the light angle later.
Test the light again. If the light arm doesn’t seat, or if the light doesn’t power on after reassembly, there may be internal damage to the wires or contacts. In that case, the light arm or entire unit might need to be replaced.
