Oh nice! So they are converting their hub into a matter bridge. That is totally acceptable IMO. Certainly direct matter compatibility per device is preferred, but a hub functioning as a matter bridge for legacy devices is good enough for me. Most people won’t know the difference at all. That’s really great news. I’ll have to keep an eye out for how this changes things with their currently cloud dependent integration.
I also recently saw that ZWave is expected to get a new update soon that will allow it to better compete against LoRa by allowing signals to reach like a KM away soon.
I saw that as well. I think there was a time frame of early next year. Another new hub of some sort needed. Sigh…
Well, then I am glad I haven’t bought a ZWave hub yet. I was waiting for Home Assistant to launch theirs, and I just checked and it appears their new one should be including this (LR) specification, so I will just get that one when it launches.
Looks like LR may already be available:

Here is an interesting article from the Verge who claims that
2025 will be the year of the smart lock
And
Smart locks have seen more innovation in 2024 than almost any other category in the smart home
Next year will see the launch of Aliro. This new cross-platform protocol is being developed by Apple, Google, Samsung, and major lock manufacturers to provide a standard way to use smartphones, smartwatches, and any compatible personal device as digital keys for your door.
Aliro will bring a simpler, more accurate hands-free unlocking experience to smart locks with ultra wideband
By the end of 2025, most smart locks will be compatible with any smart home platform and offer at least a year of battery life.
That all sounds fantastic! I might wait for next year’s prime day or Black Friday to get a new lock now.
From what I’m reading, existing locks should be able to be updated to support the Aliro protocol. So in theory it’s possible for Wyze or any other existing Smart Lock to be able to do it if they have Wi-Fi or NFC or BLE (which Wyze locks use). Though I don’t expect Wyze to do that, just saying it will be nice to know which locks will definitely support that.

I’ve been on the hunt for a lock that “properly” integrates with Home Assistant but I haven’t found one that I like enough to pull the trigger. Hopefully this article is accurate and I can just wait for a bit! Thank you for sharing!

I hope something more important happens next year. I am optimistic.
No smart locks for me, until it is government mandated. I just cannot trust a cheap lock for my home and personal security. IMO. Cameras okay.
Then buy an expensive one

That’s a great idea.
Need to do some research.
I guess you are right. AI just told me the same thing.
I am still hoping something more remarkable will happen in the year ahead.
