The Manual Flash Firmware process is restricted to FAT32 only. It will not work with exFAT formatted cards. Only after a good working copy of the firmware is on the cam will the cam support reading and writing to larger capacity exFAT cards.
Because anything 64GB and above is factory formatted exFAT, they will fail on a Manual Flash.
Uh Oh. I have the same problem. One out of two V3 Cams died after update. Tried to reset from scratch but the cam says it cannot connect to network. I replaced my faulty V3 cam with my Eufy pan cam. Guess I need to flash and read this entire thread. Bummer. (4.36.11.5859)
Don’t panic! Take a few deep breaths and calm down first before proceeding.
Have you tried turning it OFF and ON again? If “N” repeat step 2.
Reset the device. Reset a few times if you have to.
MicroSD 32gb / 16gb formatted to FAT32 with the correct manual firmware files? If “N” repeat step 4 before continuing.
Is it working now? If “Y”, grab your favorite brew and relax. If “N”, just reach out here and I’m sure someone will be able to get you up and running or at least narrow down if a component just died. It’s electronic, things happen. It’s like buying a new pack of lightbulbs, putting one in and it blows when you go to turn it on. It happens.
Seriously though, sometimes we overlook the most simplest of things when we feel anxious or frustrated. Just walk way for a bit and then try again. Cheers!
First of all thanks to everyone that replied to my comments, I appreciate the help.
Got the two v3 cameras back up and running. Still had an issue with the Wyze App when trying to connect after they were updated with the firmware. After I scanned the QR Code and checked the box I could not hit the Next Button to go to the connection page until the camera said it was connected or the camera would connect but not the App, great work Wyze.
Still kind of ridiculous that Wyze puts out an Firmware Update without doing some testing to make sure it works properly.
Believe it or not, sometimes you might have a lot running in the background on your phone when setting it up which may make the app seem slow at times. One thing you can do is clear the Wyze app cache to see if that helps.
There’s a lot of tweaks you can do as well in Developer Options (android), but that’s a whole new topic. Glad to hear you got things running.
I have 17 V3 cams that all successfully updated to the newest firmware the first time and haven’t had any issues. The same goes for the vast majority of V3 users. It isn’t the firmware. It works properly.
There is no way for Wyze to test firmware update downloads on your ISP or WiFi Network which is where this particular failure occured.
What does need to be developed is a Firmware Download Package Inspection and Verification process (or better one) prior to installation and application of the firmware update. Far too many Wyze cams have failed update because the firmware update download was corrupted.
My Wyze Cam is within reach of my router and yet still the connection speed bounces around and drops momentarily. It does fine with viewing the Cam on my PC or Cellphone, but I believe the momentary dip in connection speed dropping it to zero may have been what caused the update to fail.
In the future I just plan on playing it safe and postponing the update until I bring it in and closer to the router. With the help from you and this forum I was able to fix it with a manual update so I still plan on sticking with Wyze products.
Was it a PITA? Yes it was. But to me the Wyze Cams are still far better than the much more expensive Ring Cam I have and the Wyze Cam has never been a problem before other than this one hiccup. I’ve had this V3 ever since they were first released.
Absolutely. This is also a major issue with the SD Playback on the PanV3 which has experienced the same firmware fails. My last two routers caused the same stream drops due to the transfer rate dropping. But since my last upgrade, I haven’t had those problems.
I’m curious as to whether “beamforming” can be causing an issue. For those that experienced issues, do you have a “beamforming” option in your wifi setup? If so, is it on? Try turning it off and see if you experience more stable and uniform speed on your wifi connected devices.
Did not have any apps running in the background and had to try several times to connect so it was not just running slow. Had to let the camera fully connect before hitting the next button after reading the QR Code or the Wyze App would not connect. Had to go through the process several times before I just tried something different and it worked.
I spent a couple of hours trying to connect to my network after the last update with my V3 cam. I put in a new “wyze sd card” and reflashed with the current version but still not able to connect.
Then I tried the setup again but this time after scanning the QR code I waited “before” I clicked next until the camera said “connected to local net” and it set up with no problem. Thanks to your comment about that!!! Coincidence. Maybe but that one step could be the difference. Just fyi for all.
Same things happened to three of my v3 cams when updating to the latest firmware. After troubleshooting for for endless hours, reviewing a load of threads and videos, and wondering if they were ultimately bricked, I finally found the solution. I had initiated a batch update to all my cameras and apparently, some updated just fine and others were interrupted and left with incomplete firmware that couldn’t connect to Wifi. I flashed the firmware directly on the camera via the setup button about about a billion times, and one finally connected and updated. But two remained bricked. Finally I manually downloaded the firmware via my laptop onto the camera SD card and then flashed the firmware, and it worked. This WYZE video helped finally solve the issue: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vzu5aNePOz8
