Hi NickD,
Are you writing your own apps inside IFTTT and adding your own services?
I am learning about personal apps inside IFTTT but I am worried about its limitations.
Thanks
I’m just using the configurator. Although I’m also looking into using an app called Tasker to set off a proper alarm when my Push notifications go off on my phone so I don’t miss them.
I would like to use IFTTT to better capture or organize videos that are triggered by sensors. Right now, the Wyze app has me dig down into each sensor to find any videos that the sensors triggered. For example, I have a front door sensor and a motion sensor in the room near the front door. So if somebody opens the door and walks in, one video will be saved under the front door sensor and another under the motion sensor. More videos will be created if they trip additional sensors. Because each video appears with a different sensor, I have to look at each sensor to see which triggered. I would rather just look in one place. For this, it would be great if I could have a rule like “if a sensor triggers a video, save the video in my photos app.” Alternatively, maybe the App could be just rearranged to have all the triggered videos in one place.
If I’d have foreseen this, I could have bought a cheaper, non-smart LED strip!! Womp-womp. It’s a cool TV light though and I love my toys (wouldn’t be here if I didn’t). I have plugs and a bulb in my cart, I might play around with my options since my whole setup is in flux at the moment.
In your workaround, is that particular plug always going to shut off after 4 minutes - regardless of what turns it on?
In the scenario I was talking about yes, it would always shut off after 4 minutes. The reason I chose 4 is because it came on with motion sensed from a cam. The cam has a 5 minute cooldown. So I needed the light to shut off before the cooldown was over or the can would see the light going off as motion and it would go through a loop of constantly turning it back on.
I have since changed my work around because I have SmartThibgs, so I used virtual switches and something called Webcore to write my own rules making it a little more involved now.
tl;dr Please add Person-Detection in IFTTT! ![]()
IFTTT currently has motion becomes clear but not the motion has been clear as a trigger
Add action: play a recording on the camera
Super important security feature!
IFTTT to turn off Air Conditioner:
If Wyze Contact Sensor open for 5 minutes, then turn of A/C
How about a trigger that detects if the amount of available/ambient light is below certain threshold. Maybe we need a new light sensor?
A light sensor would be nice, I have SmartThings and use WebCore, I have made a program that pulls weather data and adjusts when it turns on lights by the amount of cloud cover at the time. A sensor would make what I did so much easier.
I want to use my Wyze Contact Sensor to trigger my A/C to turn off using IFTTT, but I want it to be something like:
“If Wyze sensor open for 5 minutes, then turn of A/C”
Is there any way to have this happen instead of sending the trigger immediately when the sensor detects that the door is open?
I already use the WyzeBeta app on IOS, and I see there is an option to set the trigger for when the sensor “Has been open for X hr X min X sec”, but I need the trigger available on IFTTT.
My first thought about turning an AC on or off is whether the Wyze device could handle the current and surge from the AC unit. I would check the specs before getting too far. Right now, one way to accomplish what you want is to use a combination of IFTTT.com and Apilio.io. IFTTT is super simple, Apilio a bit harder, and the interplay a bit opaque so plan on spending some time learning it all. I would recommend making up a simpler application and playing with that first.
I would agree. Also, that isn’t the best way to control an AC. Even printers mention this.
Most room air conditioners can be controlled with an IR remote these days. Use an IR blaster like the ones Broadlink sells to turn them on and off.
That’s really cool. I will have to remember it for other things. It’s also a great example of why we do need tools like IFTTT and (if you want to do things like “if open 5 minutes”) Apilio. It is hard to imagine any single company producing all the things needed to appropriately automate a smart home. It’s likewise not so good to inappropriately use the devices they have (e.g., smart switch to control high-load device) as a work-around.
i like this or an API … Some way to transcend the frustrating UI.
I get frequent power glitches, causing the bulb to turn on., but no notification If one could simply have an IFTTT trigger when the bulb is on, then the bulb could be turned off after a power glitch. This would be used in conjunction with time and date trigger and an apilio logicblock that could initiate this trigger. Until IFTTT implements conditional triggering?
I’d love to see something like: If motion sensor detects motion and contact sensor changes to open, then do this.
I would like to change the camera detection modes through IFTTT. My main example is to turn on/off camera-based motion detection, motion tracking, sound detection or pan-scan when I’m away from my house and a Wyze contact (door) sensor or motion sensor triggers.
My reasoning is that I don’t typically use camera or sound motion detection because there’s too many false alarms. However, I’m ok with false alarms if I have good reason to believe that somebody has entered my house while I’m gone. This feature would let me use IFTTT to put the camera into high-attention mode during times when it’s needed then back down when the need passed.
