Add features to the Wyze Mesh Router and Router Pro

A few things:

  1. Add a multi-gig (2.5G) LAN port. As it is, any ethernet devices are bottlenecked down to 1G. I have two computers that are 10G capable, but even if I had multi-gig internet (which is available to me), I wouldn’t be able to get better than 1G speeds thanks to the LAN port, without using a different border router and just putting the Wyze units into bridge mode

  2. Add the ability to change the local domain name, such that requests for host.mydomain.com from inside the network (i.e. queries to the router itself) will resolve to the internal IP address rather than the external ip address.

  3. I would also like to vote for VPN functionality.

I added the Mesh Pro to my network setup today, but I am running into a few issues.

  1. I have other devices such as headsets, etc, that struggle with certain 5 GHz frequencies, so I need to set it to a particular channel. There is no ability to manually set the frequency you wish to use for 5 GHz, or the 6 GHz network…only the 2.4 GHz network allows you to do this…and only from the webpage!

  2. There is no way to disable any wireless radios. I want to only use the router currently for 5 GHz and 6 GHz because my 2.4 network is already saturated and it is not needed.

  3. There is no way to manually specify the Bandwidth for 5 GHz and 6 GHz

  4. The status webpage doesn’t list the 6 GHz network under Status.

#1 and #2 are very important - for a pro router, its missing a lot of features.

The Wyze Mesh Router Pro has two Ethernet ports. A 1GB and a 2.5GB.

Exactly. The LAN port is only 1GB, as you just pointed out. Thus the problem. Even if you turned the ports around somehow, used the 2.5G port for LAN and the 1G port for WAN, your LAN–> WAN traffic will still be bottlenecked down to 1G - even if you have multi-gig internet service.

Sorry for the misunderstanding. I need to read more closely. You did specify the addition of a 2.5GB LAN Port whereas the existing port is a 2.5GB WAN Port.

  • Add the ability to see which devices are connected to the guest network

  • Add data usage / bandwidth tracking and reporting
  • built in speed testing
*Log files that show connectivity issues or if the wireless or internet has gone down.

Those are my top three basic ones that most all other mesh systems have.

VPN server support is a must-have for me. I would purchase and recommend the router pro mesh 1000x if it had this capability. For now, Netgear gets my money.

Also, the dedicated wireless backhaul is just a necessary feature for a professional level product.

This particular issue is causing problems for my ISP and performance issues for my home network. My Mesh Routers are conflicting with my fixed wireless antenna/router causing performance issues. I was asked if I could change the channel used by the mesh routers and the ISP tech was flummoxed by the idea that there wasn’t any way to change the setting on them. The Mesh doesn’t seem to identify the conflict and change the setting.

WildBill: Why do you have a wireless router as well as the new mesh router? Isn’t the reason you bought the mesh router to replace the old wireless router?

My isp uses fixed WiFi to provide service. It is essentially my modem. To elaborate a little…

I have a wireless bridge on my house that connects to the ISPs tower which is about 1 mile from my house. This provides my connection to the internet. The bridge connects to my wired router which connects to the wifi routers I’ve setup as access points for my three networks: primary, guest and IoT. I have separate wifi systems in order to completely segregate the various subnets using my main router (Ubiquiti ER-10X) with firewall rules to prevent IoT and Guest from reaching my primary or each other while allowing the primary to access IoT and Guest. I also throttle the Guest network so my stuff works.

I’m using the Wyze Mesh Routers in bridge mode to provide service for the isolated IoT network. The wireless bridge provides no service, other than the main internet connection, no wifi for my devices.

I agree with this request for an additional 2.5g LAN port. Better yet 2x 2.5g LAN ports would be amazing. In addition to the 2.5g WAN port.

Would love to see the ability to search devices by IP or MAC address.

The name and MAC do not always show on the device main page, causing you to have to go into each device to find the device you are looking for via MAC and or IP.

Being able to search a device would make the device identification process much easier. Especially when you have a TON of devices.

This probably falls under enhanced Parental Controls, but would like the ability to block/unblock devices and groups based on a timed schedule.

The ability to get IPv6 over PPPoE would be beneficial. I work at my ISP, and I can see we are offering an IPv6 to the Mesh Router Pro, however when enabled none of my devices are receiving the expected Prefix. Only IPv6 options are DHCP and static. Unsure if there needs to be a “Native” or “PPP” option.

I also agree with the ability to see traffic passing as a whole, but also at the device level.

is there anywhere we can see which of the requested features are in progress? right now we have a long and growing list and just the title with In Progress

If not yet requested - Mobile notifications when a new device joins the network, eero has this now.
“(device name) has joined the network”

VPN please

Remove or Disconnect Devices from Mesh Router.

I would like to be able to delete old or unused devices from my router without having to change the password or reconnect all of the devices. This would be an extremely beneficial addition to the app.

Adding the ability for Port Range Forwarding. This would allow users to set up public services in a group which means a range of ports, for example from 20 ~ 25.

With the current method, you can only add 1 port at a time. So the port forwarding rules look messy and take much longer to set up. With adding the ability to port range forward a user would be able to port forward multiple ports in 1 rule.
Ex.
Current - 10 rules for ports 1,2,3… -10
Future - 1 rule that opens 1-10.

Wyze loves pushing subscriptions. Please don’t be offering to pay for something other pro routers are providing already without a subscription. I prefer to buy my hardware once, and have it come with professional router software features ( or at least eventually receive them without an infinite monetization chain being attached).
