Accessibility improvements needed in the Android and iPhone App

I’m totally blind. The Wyze App needs many accessibility improvements. In teh past like 1.5 years ago, I could unmute the audio when playing a vent from the events tab of the App. I’ve not been able to do that in a vary long time. I also use to be able to stopa nd play a video from the events tab. This is and hasn’t been available to the Talkback screen reader in a long time. I would like to see this come back so a totally blind person like me has access to the same functions that a person has access to who can see. There are many other places in the App as well that need accessibility improvements. Like I can’t even add a new camera myself being the App doesn’t see the command to be able to select the button. Even is I have someone do ti for me, other buttons you must select don’t work when adding a camera with a screen reader running. Then we get into the Face ID function for a camera. Again, most of the icons aren’t labeled so I know what they are for. Then on the old Wyze Deadbolt lock, again, there are icons that aren’t labeled so I know what theya re for access by trial and error. In some place on the lock stuff, I can’t even turn off the auto lock function being the App doesn’t respond to the button press with a screen reader running. In the Cameras doesn’t matter what one, when going to setting and information about the camera to see as an example, how strong the Wi-Fi signal is, the screen reader sees nothing being the icons aren’t labeled.

I do grant, in version 3.14, limited function was given to live view so I can use it on a few camera’s but the dual battery doorbell doesn’t work. But the battery cam pro, V4 and the battery doorbell 1536 do work with Live view.

Bt like I said, the EVENTS tab showing the Videos and then when I select one, I cannot unmure the audio to hear what may have been recorded. Can’t stop/play it either. Granted I know the Video starts playing as soon as you select it, but doesn’t do any good if I can’t unmute the audio to hear what may have been recorded.

I really like seeing these kinds of posts, because I think it’s something actual Wyze employees should read, as I believe they should always strive to broaden their definition of “accessible” in their own mission statement:

So we left our jobs and set off on a mission to change that. To make great technology accessible to everyone.

I don’t know how many times I’ve argued here in the Forum and elsewhere that they have plenty of room for visual improvement in the app—and I say this as a sighted person with no meaningful screen reader experience—just by increasing their use of color contrast. What you’re describing goes beyond that and would expand “accessible” in other ways, so I’d encourage you to take a look at these Wishlist topics:

 You actually created this topic, but you haven’t voted for it (nor for any Wishlist topics as of this writing). I’ll wait a bit to vote for it myself so that you can have the first shot, but I’ll be happy to vote for that one even if you choose not to. I’ve bookmarked it with a reminder for my own follow-up.

As with any Wishlist topic, you can visit those to click or tap the Vote button above the initial post and share your ideas and use cases in the comments to show your support for the product and feature request/suggestions that are important to you.

FYI, as I’m reading through these other Wishlist topics, I’m thinking that we might merge your topic (Android app needs accessibility improvements for totally blind user) into Label buttons for blind android users, as those appear to be requesting the same thing. In that case, any votes your topic accumulates should be added automatically to those in the other topic when the topics are combined.

Regarding the audio with events, I wonder if the issue you’re describing is peculiar to Battery Cam Pro. I don’t have any problems unmuting events when I try, but I also don’t have a Battery Cam Pro to specifically test events generated by that device, and I’m not sure if there’s something you might need to enable in that Cam’s UI in order to ensure that it’s recording sound as you expect.

Thank you again for raising this issue. Please vote!
