I would gladly pay more ($50?) for a model that does 5Ghz wifi and 1080p@30fps.

If you were doing something like this I think it would require a few other options as well including RTSP, POE, outdoor capable, etc.
Agreed for a “pro” model, it should be out of the box outdoor capable, and a more reliable connection. 9/10 times i load the camera i have to power cycle or wait for it to connect and reconnect 3 or 4 times before I can finally see video.

Sounds like the camera has a network issue. How far from the router is it?
Not that far, but it is mounted outside. I have a wifi extender in the garage which boosts the signal even more. On my cell phone in the same spot I get a very strong signal. The device settings indicate a WiFi strength of high 80s to low 90s at any given time
At that point you would probably be better off buying a different camera and would get even more features. The benefit of WyzeCam is how much you get for the tiny price!

I think that this fits under the request for 5GHz WiFi (Support 5GHz wifi band for Wyze Cams) and the FPS request would likely work better as a standalone. I’m going to adjust your title and add a note about this to your post but please let me know if you would like for me to undo that. We like having individual feature requests so that we can track interest. Please go vote for the 5GHz feature request if you haven’t done so yet.

Thanks for splitting the requests. My argument for the higher FPS is greater utility when reviewing after a security breach. Every frame counts when trying to identify someone. I realize with higher FPS, the bitrate would go up, lowering the amount of video length that can be stored.

Is it within the hardware’s capability to do 30fps @ 720p? Or at least 23fps @ 720p?
Actual video processing rate used for v2’s default processing suggests it should easily be handled:
- 1080p @ 15fps = 1920 Ă— 1080 Ă— 15 bits/sec = 31,104,000 bits/sec
- 720p @ 30fps = 1280 Ă— 720 Ă— 30 bits/sec = 27,648,000 bits/sec
- Ignoring stream overhead, it could actually balance to 31104000 / (1280 Ă— 720) = 33.75 balancable fps
The poor framerate on my Wyzecam is what’s keeping me from investing in more, and replacing my 6x 5-year-old 23fps, 720p foscam C1’s … I often use my cameras to keep tabs on pets and figure out how thing X was broken or how animal Y p*ssed-off animal Z… and smooth video has proved significantly more valuable to me than higher resolution.

maybe 20FPS first , other brands/similar price like Mi and Yi support 20fps
I’d like to add that using markings in the video for motion, sound, person, would not require the actual capture of the video and its storage. From the mark, local video could be reviewed saving server storage and cool down periods, etc.
The low fps is a huge issue for my use case, I am using it on my truck as a reversing camera and one on the roof to check I’m not hitting low hanging branches etc. Its just a delayed messy blur making it only useful when I’m driving very slowly.
I don’t need resolution, 480p would do, but low latency and fps of 30 or higher is important.
I’m still very interested in a minimum of 30fps cameras. I’d hoped the v3 20fps would be sufficient, however, they are not. I’m lucky to ID a person standing 10 feet away or read a license plate in the drive from 15 ft due to the missing frames. Is this a project for the future?
Also How farely simple the Wyse cam is to set up and operate. But I have not checked out other option. I love the low price and that it works and again is pretty easy to use. I want to use the outdoor cam as a camera to monitor my 3D printer. This camera is just to low of a frame rate to use. But I love the size. I have the other wize cam that pans and tilts and I think this is a 15FPS camera which is at least high enough to be useable. I have been using the Pan and tilt camea for some time. I just set up the smaller outdoor cam to find that the Fame Rate is just to slow. I was looking to see if this camea has an adjustable frame rate option. With USB Web cams those are just to complicated to use when all I need is a simple camera to monitor my 3D Prints. And Wyse cam does the job well.
