From everything I’ve read the forums, the 3.0 app is crap. I don’t want to hear from a Wyze moderator that will just take some getting used to. BS. I don’t set up events. I don’t set up categories. I don’t set up groups. I don’t set up triggers. I don’t set up anything on the existing app at all. I just wanna look at my damn cameras. Cleary, 3.0 is the result of a bunch of corporate doofuses sitting around saying that something needs to be changed when nothing needed to be changed. No one had the balls to stand up and say, “don’t touch it, it’s fine.”
What if I want keep the old application? It’s working fine and I do like all of the screenshots. Are we being forced to get the new app?
On a final note, I’m sure there are some very skilled programmers out there that could create an application that looks like the current Wyze app and avoids all of the unnecessary stuff. I’ll buy it!
You can keep it, at least for now. Who knows for sure if or when that may ever change. To make sure your app doesn’t update automatically, make sure to go into Google Play, search for the Wyze app, click on the 3 dots at the top right and uncheck the “Enable auto update” option or Google will eventually update the app for you without your consent. If you uncheck autoupdate, it won’t force the update.
If you do ever update to the version 3.0 (whether on accident or because you wanted to try it out or because support said they couldn’t help you unless you updated to the newest version first or whatever) and then want to go back to the ver2.5 app, you will be able to download the APK from APK mirror at the Wyze collection here:
Just make sure to choose a download that is the APK for the ver 2.5 app, not the bundle option. That will restore you back to the ver 2.5 app.
I hope that helps.
Possibly, though it wouldn’t likely be allowed on the Google Play store as I expect Wyze would report it as a potentially dangerous mimic app that is pretending to be them and might be trying to steal credentials, all assuming there is no copyright violations of their existing app code. However, if you only use Wyze’s cameras, a lot of people do enjoy using Tiny Cam instead of the Wyze app. It even gives free AI detections. Another option some people like is to convert the Wyze camera streams to RTSP and then view the streams in basically any other app they want and use it in any number of programs or apps. You just have to host a conversion program like Docker Wyze Bridge, or Scrypted or Tiny Cam Pro in Server mode to get the RTSP stream from Wyze and then you can do A TON of things with it without having to even open the Wyze app anymore after the initial setup. I personally love doing that.
Anyway, feel free to keep the ver2.5 app. Wyze has not as yet made any public statement about intentions to force the 3.0 app as the new minimum.
John, if all you want to do is watch your cameras, 3.0 is not an issue at all. All your cameras exist in the device list just as they did before. What is your issue?
If you’re looking in a browser (it appears that you are), then on the app’s page you can scroll down to the About this app section (the Updated on date should be visible and shows “Jul 23, 2024” for me currently) and click on the rightwards arrow ➜ next to About this app to expand that section. This pops up an overlay, and you can scroll down in that to see the app version:
I believe in health care this would be referred to as a Phase IV clinical trial.
The latest app version grinds the app to a halt! The Home screen attempts to pull live streams of all favorite cameras, ending up spinning forever! I wish the development team has gone through some careful study and analysis of the usability of these new features in real world environments before deploying them! This latest app just adds more frustrations and it’s almost unusable!
Any way to revert back to older version? Or migrating the cameras (mine are mostly V3) to other apps such as Blue Iris?
Have you actually used the revised app yourself? Maybe take a breath and wait and give it a try before you give up on something you’ve yet to experience.
AMEN, for the last 2 months this has been a piece of cap app. I don’t do any of the NEW BETTER FEATURES THAT REQUIRE RESETING EVERY DAY BEFORE THEY WORK, AS THE LATEST UNSTOPABLE DAILY UPDATES, RESETSTO DEFAULT WHERE NO RECORDINGS TAKE PLACE. I purchased cameras that record 24/7 365 days a year with 30 days of recordings with camplus. That seems to have been stolen from me, in my opinion. GIVE ME BACK WHAT I PURCHASED, NOT THIS [Mod Edit] THAT THE OWNER CALLS BETTER BUT DOESNT WORK.
Notifications are coming in eastern time when I have GMT-3 local time. The cameras show offline while they were set online through an automation.
Missing a lot the automation shortcuts at the top of the screen. I used them a lot and now require multiple clicks.
Not much more for now, but doesn’t seem like progress, just change for the sake of it. I suppose in a few months or a year it will be updated to do what should be doing now.
Beta releases is common in the market. This should be considered one as well.
FYI, the timezone thing is a known issue that started before the 3.0 app. Here is the workaround:
They intend for us to put them in favorites now if we want them to show up on the loading page. Then it is not multiple clicks as you can put them at the top of the favorites still, but it isn’t forced on everyone to have them up there for those who don’t want them.
Missed the favourites for actions. Thank you! In any case there is wasted space because of the top menu.
Regarding the workaround for the time, It didn’t work in my Android phone. Do I need to do something with Wyze app after I changed the time zone and the reverted?
I agree there is now wasted space up top. I hope something is done with that space.
I’m not sure if there is something else that needs to be done for the time zone thing. If it didn’t fix for you, I would contact support, at the very least so they can track in their system that it’s affecting more people, but they might know if there is something more to do/try. This is the first time I’ve had someone tell me that it didn’t work.
