12/18/2024 beta app crashing over and over

My Wyze Beta app updated on 12/18/2024 and now it’s unusable. When I open it, it crashes almost immediately. I tried clearing cache and restarting the phone and app but nothing helps. I’m on a pixel 9 pro xl phone running the the 12/5 version of Android 15. Does anyone know a fix for this? Is there a way to install the older version? I didn’t know if that’s possible on the play store or not.

Thanks,

DB

Try reinstalling the app as stated in this thread:

Reinstalling the app should not be a suggested/approved solution for a problem that the company caused with an update. Wyze needs to release an update that fixes this bug.

I had the same issue on my Samsung today. I cleared BOTH Data and Cache and logged in again and it was fine.

On Android you don’t have to uninstall the app. I had the same crashing problem on Wyze Beta. Delete cach and data. When you restart app, you will have to log in with your username/password. No more crashes!

Agreed, Wyze shouldn’t pushed a beta release to non beta users. OTOH, beta testers should not complain, you signed up for beta and you have to deal with consequences.

@habib,

Are we sure this was “pushed” to non-beta users?

If it was I would expect there would be many times the complaints on this forum. I would be scared what Wyze Support would be seeing. Potentially 1000’s or more in a short period of time. If so I would expect this release to be pulled down/replaced quickly.

Guess we will see in the next few days.

I call BS on that!

Not 100% sure but give it some time.

That is good to know. I only delete the Cache so I don’t have to do the basic setup again. I would assume that Deleting the Data corrected the issue then.

Had same problem. Deleting seems to have corrected the deadlock. Thanks!

That’s not my interpretation of the data. I suggested in a related topic that users with this problem should post their actual app versions, because I suspect they’re all using the new β app (including first-time Forum posters), but I haven’t yet seen anyone confirm this.

@douglasborders, you might want to (temporarily) leave the β channel until this blows over. I would expect that to get you back to the earlier production version if installing via Google Play Store. Otherwise, you’re probably looking at another source for an APK.

@Crease,

My point was I don’t think this was pushed out to non-beta users. It would be really really bad if it was.

That’s what I’m saying. I don’t think it was, either, and I haven’t seen evidence that supports the belief that it was. We agree on this.

This is the thread that led mo to believe that a beta version might have been pushed to all Android users :thinking:

Yes, I’ve read and responded to your comments there. I don’t see the evidence, because no one is reporting their actual app version(s) there and/or whether or not they’ve previously opted into the β track.

I think @ronl4625 is correct:

Looks like I might’ve jumped to conclusion :blush:

@Crease @habib
I have an Android phone and have signed on for Beta and have the app label “WyzeBeta” with v3.2.8 (b603). I had the issue and had to clear data and log in again to resolve.
My wife has an Android phone and is not signed up for Beta and has the app label “Wyze” with v3.2.7 (595). There is no issue on her phone.

Thank you. This worked beautifully

That’s been my suspicion. :grin:
