Wyze Web App

Not sure if this question is best asked here or in the Wyze News section. On the wyze website, when I log into my account, there is a section where I can look/stream on the website at my camera(s). It says on the website:

“Wyze offers free web live streaming for one camera, which stays set for the month after selection.”

Well, that description can be very confusing. So, here are a couple of questions I’m hoping can be answered.

  1. When it says that the ONE camera stays set for the month after selection, does that mean after the month I can select that camera or a different one to view live streaming?
  2. It says that this is “FREE”, but is there some plan/fee that is hidden?
  3. Do any of the paid plans like Cam Plus or Cam Unlimited allow you to view on the web ALL of my cameras. (This would be great if I could integrate the web site with my tv’s web browser
  4. Under this free offer, if I choose one of my cameras, am I stuck with that camera for an entire month, or can I turn it off and stream one of my other cameras.
  5. Any Other Question or information you can anticipate for me

Thanks
mike

Correct, at least, that’s what an employee told me when I asked him.

No hidden fee for you. It does technically cost Wyze a little bit of money, but this is why they limit you to just 1 if you don’t have a subscription for the rest. I’m sure half the reason they do this is because they found some people will like it so much that they’ll just get Cam Unlimited so all their cams can do it.

Yep, Cam Unlimited will allow ALL your cams to do this. I can get up to 20 out of my 50+ cameras streaming all at the same time on one screen if I size my browser and monitor resolution just right, but I can scroll up and down to see the rest of them, or I can limit it to just a selection. I usually only have 10-12 selected to livestream.
And yes, you can use it with your TV’s web browser :+1:

You can only change which camera you use once per month. It will then lock onto that camera for 30 days and you can switch to a different one next month.
However, if you get a single Cam Plus License, you can switch which camera has the Cam Plus license as often as you want. You just go into your settings and keep moving which camera has the license and that camera will be able to stream. It does not lock in for 30 days. Only the free option locks the camera for 30 days.

I haven’t tried this, but that’s one mental question mark I have because of their list of of compatible browsers. Since they also have a Help Center article about Brave Browser (even though that one’s about app login and not about running Web View), the message I get is that a Chromium-based browser should work, so I guess it depends on what a particular TV is running. I’ve had reasonably good results using Firefox, which Wyze says is unsupported…as long as I’m not trying to stream any Cam OGs. :man_shrugging:

Fair point! I should clarify that I meant that I have been able to use it with a TV browser, but it will definitely depend on some details such as what the browser is based on. Many are using Chromium, the core of Google Chrome, and most of those should work. However, some others may not.

You should check if your browser works with the free one first before buying a subscription just in case you have a browser that is incompatible. If it doesn’t work, consider installing a different browser and see if that one works with it. I know it works on some TV Browsers.

So far I’ve just used the Google Home integration to stream Wyze cameras to a TV, but that’s only a single camera at a time. I might have to play around with Web View in a TV’s browser, because that’s something I hadn’t really considered before, but this topic has piqued my curiosity.

Come to think of it, I may not have tried the browser method since back when it was called the “Web View”…I’m not sure I’ve ever tried it now that they switched to calling it the “Web Portal”…but even the Web view version had browser compatibility issues with Firefox, Samsung Browser and others…so I assume it would be basically the same.

I’m like you, I now just use the Google Home Integration to view them on my TV. I just remembered that I was able to use the Browser during a test, but it’s a good point that not browsers are supported equally, so best to check.

Just a quick note. I just turned on the web app for one of my cameras. FWIW, it does NOT WORK on my computer with Firefox and Waterfox. But it does work with Safari. (I have a MAC). I will be trying my tv’s browser. I have a sony bravia, and it uses google I believe, so it might work. I’ll let you know.
Thanks

I’m curious: What camera model did you try to stream into Firefox and Waterfox?

Ok; so I have V3 cameras. When I tried Firefox (Actually Waterfox), the connecting spinner keeps going and then eventually fails. Worked fine in Safari

I just got off of my TV. It’s a Sony Bravia 7. Installed a few web browsers. A bit of problems at first. Some browsers wouldn’t let me log in. Anyway, I installed a browser called “Browsehere”. It’s an android based. Anyway, it worked fine. Of course when I logged into wyze and went to my cameras, the browser said it couldn’t do the popup and wanted to know if I wanted to go to the link. I said yea, it sent me to the page with my cameras. And it showed the one streaming. Worked fine. I’ll probably experiment later and install something like Chrome or similar.

Not sure how much I will use it on the tv. I don’t live on tv apps. I live entirely on Apple tv 4k streaming devices. Unfortunately, Wyze doesn’t have an Apple tv 4k app. And unfortunately, apple tv 4k doesn’t have a web browser app. The only option is to just mirror my iphone to the apple tv 4k/television. But, I was just curious if I can look at my cameras on the tv if I wanted to. The answer is yes. I’m sure it will work with just about any android based browser. But for me, using a streaming device all the time, it might be inconvenient. We’ll see.

I appreciate the detailed response! Thank you!

I just tried it on an LG TV that’s a few years old and running webOS, and I used its native browser, which WhatIsMyBrowser reported as NetCast on Linux. Wyze’s site let me authenticate (the “New Login detected on your Wyze account” e-mail message identified “Device Type: NetCast”), but then the spinning indicator (spindicator?) on Web View wouldn’t fully load any pages for me. I haven’t explored enough to see if any other browsers are available or can be installed on that platform, but it’s not a big deal for me if that’s not an option: I use a Chromecast on that TV, so I can just stream individual cameras through Google Home.

The multiple names don’t help much. When I search DuckDuckGo for Wyze Web View, the results include pages for “Wyze Web Portal”, “Wyze Web Live”, and “Wyze Web View”. I’ve tended to use “Web View” when discussing it here in the Forum, because that’s what I’ve read in the Help Center articles, but the page title when I’m logged in is “Wyze Web Live”, and during the authentication process (while logging in) there’s a transitional page with a title of “Wyze Web App”. Some consistency might help users’ sanity (or maybe just mine ).

In case you didn’t know, if you have any of the M class Macs you can load the iPad app and use it in portrait, landscape in either windowed or full screen mode.

I understand that, but, there’s nothing wrong with using Safari on my Mac. Why would I need to load the Ipad app??? I’m fine using it on my mac with safari. The ONLY THING I’d like for Apple support, is an Apple TV 4k app so I could watch it directly on my TV using my Apple tv 4k. This way I wouldn’t need to use a tv web browser. I could mirror my iphone/ipad to my apple tv 4k and watch that way, but that too is a PITA. It would be nice to just have youtubetv, netflix, amazon, … Wyse, and then just click on it. But alas… Wyze doesn’t support apple tv 4k.

In case you don’t have a subscription and can’t use Web View. :man_shrugging:

…and probably never will.

Ummmm, sorry, but excuse my confusion. I understand using a computer to monitor if I don’t have a subscription and can’t use web view. But I don’t understand what that has to do with putting an IPAD app on my mac computer, when the mac computer works fine with safari. Why would I need a 2nd method on my mac? Now, if none of the browsers worked on the mac, then I guess having the ipad app would be a workaround. But browsers do work on the mac for viewing the cameras. So again… what are you saying? Thanks
Mike

Browsers work only if you have subscription. Without subscription only one camera a month can be viewed.

Ok gotcha. I wasn’t sure you were talking about having all the cameras live viewing.
Thanks
Mike
