Wyze v4 webcam spotlight stays on dim at all times!

This is my second v4 camera that is staying on dim all the times.

I followed all the troubleshooting steps that support rep recommended and did not resolve. So I ended up exchanging it via Amazon, now the new one started doing the same issue only after a couple of weeks.

I checked the firmware and its the latest 4.52.9.6119

Any suggestions before I decide to return it and get a full refund?

Thanks.

Maybe try a different adapter but that seems unlikely if everything else is working fine.

My other thought is just that it may be getting water in it due to being upside down, even though it is under an eave, water can still blow or even track along that molding and drip down when it hits the edge, so maybe look when it rains next and see if something like that is happening?

In the app itself it says it is set to high? May be worth trying a “reset services” just to see if that somehow synchs it up. Just note you’ll need to re-set your detection/notification preferences after doing that reset.

Hi

Thanks for the suggestions. I tried new adapter and it remains the same. it seems to be a firmware issue because other users have the same exact issue. In my case, I already exchanged the camera and the problem appear less than 1 week after installation.

I wish that Wyze would acknowledge it and come up with a firmware solution.

I have a v4 and the light has never been anything but full brightness. Though I only use mine with an automation, not set on “automatic”, so maybe there is some bug with that. I haven’t noticed anyone else mention it though. When I toggle it manually it also comes on full brightness. I don’t think I ever touched the brightness setting, pretty sure it defaulted to the brightest setting.

Considering they work fine for a while then change, that seems to rule out firmware, unless you delayed updating the firmware on the replacement one? That’s why I mention checking when it rains to see if there is water dripping on it. When upside down, the SD card slot is vulnerable, and even the setup button may be. A strip of electrical or sealing tape over those may be a good idea if you find it is hardware and replace it again. Or finding a way to mount it “right side up” or protect it from water that may be running along that trim.

Only other thought that comes to mind - how long is the wire between the cam and the adapter? Did it maybe get pinched or damaged when it was being run?

Could test temporarily with a new/different cable (something short) and extension cord, then see if toggling the light on/off is full brightness or not. Would rule out possible power or cable issues.

I haven’t, either, so I don’t know what to make of this:

Pointing to sources might be helpful, because from the information provided so far I don’t think I understand the issue or the expectation. Does the Cam’s spotlight turn on and stay on whenever the Cam is powered, regardless of what’s been selected in Settings? How are the Spotlight Settings configured? What Automations are enabled that could affect this?

Welcome to the Forum, @jxsori!

I think these are good questions, too, because the photo seems to indicate that the cable is concealed by screwed-in trim, and if this is essentially a permanently-mounted cable that’s been used for both Cams, then checking with a different cable might identify the culprit. Also, if this is not the stock cable that’s being used—or even if just the same cable and power adapter have been used for both Cams—then trying a different power adapter might shed some light. :+1:
