Wyze V4 Pan Cam: Please Add RTSP & Put the Amazing V4 Camera on a Pan/Tilt Base!

Hi everyone,

I currently own 32 Wyze cameras, including V3s, V4s, V3 Pan Cams, V4 Pan Cams, and a V3 Pro.

I have two questions/suggestions for Wyze:

First, is there any possibility of a beta firmware for the V4 Pan Cam that would support RTSP? I would really like to be able to use the V4 Pan Cam with RTSP, especially since I already use RTSP with several of my other Wyze cameras.

Second, why can’t Wyze make a true V4 camera on a remotely controlled pan/tilt base?

The regular V4 is an absolutely awesome camera. The color during the day and at night is excellent, the size is great, and I especially like it for time-lapse recording. One of the things I really like is being able to record a long time-lapse and then download it without having to get a ladder out just to remove the microSD card.

The regular V4 also seems to produce much better color and image quality for me at night and during the evening than the V4 Pan Cam. I can record a 12-hour time-lapse on my V4 at 10-second intervals and end up with an excellent, manageable file. The V4 Pan Cam time-lapse files, on the other hand, can get ridiculously large unless I reduce the quality/file size, and I don’t think the night and evening image quality is nearly as good.

What I really want is the actual V4 camera on a remotely controlled pan/tilt base.

I know Wyze has the dual-camera approach, but to me that isn’t the same thing. If you move the bottom camera to look at something, you still have the upper camera sitting at a different angle. Even though the cameras can be adjusted, you’re still dealing with two different fixed viewpoints and the limitations caused by the position and tilt of the other camera.

I don’t want two cameras trying to accomplish what one true V4 Pan Cam could do.

I love the regular V4. I just wish Wyze would put that same V4 camera, with its image quality, size, time-lapse capabilities, and excellent night performance, on a remotely controlled pan/tilt base.

And please, give us RTSP on the V4 Pan Cam! :grin:

They have not announced what the next RTSP cam will be (if any). The Panv4 would be the next logical one (so far they’ve done Camv3, Panv3, then Camv4) but since each cam uses different drivers, firmware, bootloader, etc, it may come down to some just not being able to support it easily.

The Panv4 is a 4K camera where the Camv4 is 2.5K so I don’t see why they’d go backwards. Physics basically dictates that a 4K sensor is going to have worse low light sensitivity than a lower resolution one, that’s one of the tradeoffs. The one possible exception being the Sony StarVis2 but I don’t see Wyze shelling out the extra to use those, especially when they then compress that excellent image down to around 1mbit/sec. That’s another problem with the higher res cams, they have to apply even more compression (although they are using the much better H.265 HEVC compression on the 4k cams) to maintain that target bitrate.

In the past some people would literally stick an OG telephoto to the side of a Panv3 to get both near and far vision on a PT platform, but you have to make sure you have clearance.

Maybe look at the Duo - it has two 2K cameras, one pan and one stationary.

well if I put the Duo on the room I would have to air the bottom one at the back yard (Down and out a bit) then that throws off the projection of the top movable camera that you wont be able to see everything because the bottom camera is mounted at a funny angle.. then you ave the blockage of the bottom camera with most of your download vision..

If it is indoors you can mount it upside down so the PT cam is on the bottom. Not saying it is the right cam for you, I don’t know what your situation is, was just a suggestion. You don’t “have” to aim the static cam anywhere, usually it would point the same direction as the “home” position of the PT cam, so when that one moves to track something, you don’t lose view of the “home” area.

If the v4 fits your needs better, setting up 2 or 3 of those to cover the same area as the pan is an option too. Some prefer doing that so they have a constant view of the whole area.

Not officially through Wyze yet, but probably in the future, yes.

If you are desperate for RTSP now, then you might want to look into 3rd party solutions such as Tiny Cam [Pro] and/or Docker Wyze Bridge forks. These will convert Wyze camera streams into RTSP to be able to start using it now.
