I bought two Wyze V4 cameras from Amazon in April 2025. They set up and worked fine. I used them in my house while I was traveling and nobody was home. I forgot to put a SD card in one of them. So when I got back home, I unplugged the camera, inserted a SD card and tried to get it to work. Now I couldn’t even see the camera on the Wyze app.
After a bunch of trial and error, I wound up needing to delete the device from the Wyze app and start from scratch. I unplugged the camera and removed the SD card. Then I tried to set it up like a new device. Well, it will not say “Ready To Connect” no matter what I do. I tried all the different suggestions. When I do a 10 second press on the Reset Button, it just continues to slow blink red. I don’t know what happened to it, but I can’t get it to set up no matter what I try. So weird, it was working while I was away, but now it won’t connect and it’s useless.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I hope that Wyze will send me a new one. I started a support ticket.
Try longer than 10 second press, factory reset on some of my cams seems to take longer than that (make sure SD card is removed when doing factory reset).
The button could be dead or corroded, you can use something pointed (but not sharp) to try and push it more firmly.
But the fact that unplugging and plugging it made it disappear makes me thing something more serious may have failed. Should have come right back online. Or maybe the SD card is no good and the cam is freezing trying to read/mount it.
I think you’re doing the right thing by making sure no microSD card is in the Cam and then holding the SETUP button for 10 seconds (or more) to factory reset the device. Are you also using the original power adapter and cable? Even if you don’t hear the voice prompt but still see the blinking red status light that indicates the Cam is in setup mode (that it actually is ready to connect), what happens if you try to proceed with setup? I don’t recall the exact circumstances, but I once did a factory reset on a Cam Pan v3 that never gave me the voice prompt afterward but allowed me to set it up as a new device despite that, so I wonder if you’re experiencing something similar.
Yeah, I did try proceeding to setup, figuring (as you said) that maybe hearing “Ready To Connect” doesn’t matter since the light is blinking. But the device can’t be found. IDK why. Very frustrating. From the time I plug in the camera, the red light blinks slowly. Yes, I’m using the original adapter and cable. I even tried using a different cable, but it didn’t make a difference.
I don’t use iOS, so I’m not sure what permissions are required for device discovery to work on that platform, but I know on Android I’ve had to enable both Bluetooth and Location permissions/features when trying to add a new Wyze device.
I’d be frustrated in this situation, too, and I’m glad you opened a ticket with Wyze. My guess is that they might suggest some troubleshooting steps (most or all of which you’ve likely already done) and then offer a replacement, which should be easy if you ordered from Amazon (assuming Amazon was the actual seller and shipper).
