I’ll see what happens with the 2nd one when it gets here this week.
I honestly don’t remember if there was a firmware update in mid/late December or not, but the V3 worked great for a while. I installed it the last week of November and it was fine until later in December.
I’m curious to see what you discover. I’ve got my third and final one on its way by FedEx/USPS to me now. I hope the final one is not screwed up like I’ve been reading. I’m also not sure why other shipments have been shipped solely by mail yet this final one is coming by FedEx/USPS, but it’s still taking over a week according to FedEx tracking.
There was a firmware upgrade. Shipped with 4.36.0.125, then upgraded to 4.32.0.228.
I found .228 to be problematic.
Download instructions here:
My cameras work better for me at 4.36.0.125. I’ll try upgrading with the release after .228
Thanks, that could be it since I didn’t have any problems the first 4 weeks. I’ll downgrade the firmware and see if it makes a difference. I think my problems started the week before the date on that firmware, but being on the beta channel I may have updated it a bit before that date. I just don’t remember.
Update after a few weeks and hopefully my final update.
Previously, I returned 2 of the first shipment of V3’s prior to 4.36.0.228 firmware update being offered (i’m not a beta tester by choice). One V3 was just not stable (hanging 3/3) and the other was bricked and could not connect after a QR connection. Wyze has logs and full explanation - hopefully that will assist.
Currently running 6 V3’s and 2 V2’s on my Google Mesh network. Updated firmware immediately to .228 (about 2-3 weeks ago) and have had no blips or hangs on 3/3. Signal strength meter seems to now be responsive.
Lastly have 2 more V3’s in the HOA deployed on other folks networks and happy to report these are stable as well. One rather problematic V3, i employed a suggested workaround and scheduled a restart every night… Now i have it restart once a week. after 2 weeks on this schedule, no hangs.
So for now I’m seeing good stability in the connection, including SD card reading with the .228 firmware. hopefully Wyze continues to work out the bugs and get the V3’s as stable as the V2’s have been.
You mentioned you have a mesh system. Have you tested how far you can get any of your V3’s from one of your routers? Although my V2’s show 3 bands at well over 100 feet, I’m not able to get my firmware updated V3 more than 15-20 feet from my router without dropping frames and quickly loosing connection. At 25 feet, it will sit and blink and not regain its wifi connect at all.
I have not moved the Cameras since installing them on my porch as well as the Google NEST WiFi Mesh system. Before, I used the WiFi router supplied by Spectrum with my V.2 camera and it stuttered constantly. With the web system, the v.2 and v.3 cams have had no issues at all. I’m not using the Google WEB system… I’m using the newer Google NEST Web system with one point. The point is in the room where the two v.3 cams are outside that room and on the porch. The main Google Nest Router is in my living room some distance from my point placement near the v.2 cam. My Nest Cam is in my bedroom pointing through a window and two Canary Cams are inside also. None have issues at all.
Thanks! I think I must have gotten one with a disconnected antenna or some other obvious mechanical issue. Really appreciate your weighing-in and helping!
I have my 2 v3 in the exact location as where my 2 v2 were. Inside looking thru a window to the outside. Exact settings used from my v2. The v3 are struggling with person detection. The v2 were near flawless. I suspect the new low light sensor on the v3 is causing the issue. I may just switch the v2s back and look into putting the v3s outside. Nevertheless I’m disappointed. Maybe an update will fix.
For the people with connectivity issues, i have 13 outdoor v2s and one pan with zero wifi problems.
i have four v3s yet to be installed and have been waiting to see if these connections issues gets resolved before I get on a ladder and run additional power cables.
Question: Could the intermittent wifi connection issues being reported by so many be related to microwave oven usage - yours or neighbors while in use?
Thank you in advance!
When I use my microwave 3 of 5 cams loose connection. I simply restart the application and they all go online immediately. I’ve never had an connection issues, otherwise. I do have fiber internet and use Google Nest WiFi with an extra Point, so that may have something to do with a strong connection.
Weird how some common electronics that people overlook (like a microwaves ) can potentially affect wifi connectivity of some iOT devices…(Especially with so many people around us with devices that are need some sort of internet connection…I think a good quick tip is to set a timer to restart your router once a week to get a hopefully cleaner/renewed internet connection with your devices…))
Same here. Mine worked briefly and now will not reconnnect even after a reset. The quality was great for the short time it worked. However, I have 3 v2’s with no problem. I am not very happy with this. It may be going in the trash.
[3 months later]
I now have three v3’s using 4.36.0.280 firmware. All 3 are 100 - 150 feet from the nearest access point. All stable. All configured for continuous recording to an SDcard.
(I bought one more after saying I wouldn’t make another purchase until RTSP support was available)
The low light (starlight) view is so much better than a v2, I wouldn’t buy another camera of any brand, without the starlight sensor.
I’m guessing that RTSP is in the drawer of discarded dreams, along with “pan presets”. You can’t always get what you want…
I’ve been running three V3 for a while now and definitely making use of and loving the capabilities of the starlight sensor in the V3s.
Also I’ve found that the V3s cohabits well with my V2 cameras. I’ve purchased another V3 cam to replace one of my V2.
