Well, that’s partially true. The cameras support detecting if some OTHER detector detected smoke or CO…they don’t have any way of detecting anything themselves as a primary source. They simply tell you if they heard the following from some other device:
Temporal-Three (T3) alarm signal, which produces 3 long beeps followed by a pause. [smoke]
T4 alarm signal, which produces 4 long beeps followed by a pause. [carbon monoxide ]
So you have to have a separate smoke detector or CO detector. Wyze doesn’t currently have any devices that actually detect Smoke or CO themselves as was stated.
However, Wyze is working on some devices to help directly protect the home from fire damage and water and other things:
But that is not yet currently an option. Still, the cams provide a nice help to turn other cheaper detectors into smart detectors by way of Wyze forwarding the beeping detection on to your phone no matter where you are. That is pretty cool. I wish I could set those notices to ignore my Do-Not-Disturb settings at night, but still not disturb me for most all other normal notices. Wyze needs to create separate priority notification options for things like this.
As for cellular backup options @davesirak Wyze doesn’t currently have any plans announced for supporting this themselves probably since it would add a lot of cost for the hardware and the service. Still, there has been discussion of ways to implement this yourself. I made a post exploring some DIY options to consider here:
